Ive read the book, but I've got no idea what im doing in terms of the context essays that have been proposed to me by my teacher.  :-[ :-[how should you incorporate the book when writing these essays???....... how do i bring the book in whilst talking about identity and belonging????

as well, which stories within the novel would be the best to emphasis identity and belonging ;D

You can do this three ways:

1. Emulate the style of the author - basically, the way they construct their language, form, etc.  If they write a play, then try writing a play too.  If they use lots of colloquial language of metaphors, copy that.

2. Emulate the ideas of the text - have some of the same ideas as in the original text.  For instance, explore alienation, identity, loss of self, oppression from parents, etc.

3. Emulate narrative - copy some of the plot elements.  For instance, have a character who is alienated by their peers, whose parents are particularly brutal to them, who wants to change their name, etc.

Best to combine the three.

And I reckon any of the stories where the characters feel ostracized or confused about themselves... (ie. most of them :p)
