Hmm..the plot thickens. Maybe it's the same poster but they got upgraded to a CSP later? Shrug.

Yeah, it changes every GAMSAT sitting; a 69 in GAMSAT UK corresponded to around 98th percentile. Either way, pretty damn high cut-off.

Hmmm yeh...

Tbh I think for Dent the applicants are much more spread out via the GAMSAT compared to the GPA. I.e. I'd say that getting 69 vs. 67 Melbourne weighted on the GAMSAT is more important than say 6.9 or even 7 vs. 6.7, 6.8.

You should assume that every poster is lying about their scores (also these are the people you will have the pleasure of going to medical/dental school with <3 )

6.7 GPA means that you've gotten a H1 in every subject except for one right?

That's absolutely insane

Ummm not quite :P
6.7 is essentially having 3 H1s and 1 H2A (out of 4 subjectS --> actually gives you 6.75) just to give you an idea :P

Assuming a H2A actually gives you a GPA of 6.5 (and a H2B gives you a GPA of 6), wouldn't getting 3 H1's and a H2A give you a GPA of 6.875?

I'm currently enrolled in the UoM Dentistry course, but I don't know much about the cutoffs. That being said, I am pretty surprised that a person with 6.95 GPA and 67 (UoM-weighted) GAMSAT did not get a CSP, when a person with 6.77 GPA and 69 GAMSAT did. I guess it comes down to how UoM applies the equal weighting with respect to GPA and GAMSAT scores. My understanding was that we go by ranks - so every applicant is given a GPA rank and a GAMSAT rank, and these are combined to give a final rank. (I'm not 100% sure of this, but the current guide on GEMSAS states "Offers will be made on the basis of a combined ranked list where ranks by GPA,  GAMSAT
are given equal weighting.").

You should assume that every poster is lying about their scores (also these are the people you will have the pleasure of going to medical/dental school with <3 )

Hey, we're surely not all that despicable ... are we?  :'(

Yeah 3 H1s and 1 H2A gives you 6.875.

Think Melbourne Uni determines its offers for both med and dent by combining Z-scores generated by both GPA and GAMSAT, as it's probably the fairest way to rank applicants with equal weighting. There isn't much difference between someone who gets a 70 GAMSAT versus a 75 GAMSAT as the percentiles are pretty close then, but there is a bigger difference between someone who gets a 65 versus a 70.

Looked at GEMSAS admissions guide for the DDS, says nothing about any spots reserved for UoM students (apart from Chancellors). Wonder where they got that info from.

Holy shit just saw that a 6.95 GPA and 69 (67 Melbourne weighted) GAMSAT got a FFP. Competition is truly insane. Pretty much everybody on PD got a FFP apart from one person with a 69 Melbourne gammy and 6.77 GPA.

Most of those people would have got a CSP offer after the course started. MDS is short-staffed and only got around to informing additional CSP offers on the day of the census -.- There were like 15 people who got CSP offers on that day. Happy times :)

ERC and Giblin Eunson both have around 5 group rooms that you can use, which shut at 1am. You may need to book these in advance though. Apparently Frank Tate is also open.

Actually the project rooms close earlier than that, probably for H&OS reasons. Best bet for groupwork after hours is if your group finds and occupies a whole table in one of the libraries so you don't disturb others.

They keep the rooms open in the biomed library after hours.
