Hey guys I am in need of some advice :( (btw long time lurker first time poster)

i recently got my mark back from an assignment i handed in and i felt really good about it (definitely a h2 mark), and i was really confident about how I went about it. But when I got the mark back it said i failed and this is the first fail ive ever gotten at uni. It was worth 25% and Im really struggling for motivation about what i can do about it and in general. I tried contacting my tutor but they said there was nothing they could do. What should i do about this? Does anyone also know whether a fail on an assignment will go on your transcript or anything or if there will be a record of a failure anywhere? its just that i know my parents will be devastated if they ever knew about me failing since i have so many commitments outside of school.

Thanks in advance for any advice and sorry if im rambling on, its just that im really in a deep shock about this and cant even concentrate properly

Yeah, I agree with what seretide said. I just wanted to add that it may be worth speaking to your tutor about it and asking them where you went wrong and how you could improve in the future (even if they can't actually change the grade). Also, for next time you have a paper to write, the academic skills team are very helpful and you can do an academic writing drop-in or an iTute to get some help reviewing your work and giving you tips. I've never done an iTute but the drop-in I did was great!

Wait, what!??!!

You guys actually rehearsed? ahahahah.

We finished ours on the day. And our presentation was literally us just talking. lol

Quiz 3 is almost up, i've heard it's the hardest one

Yes quiz 3 is definitely the hardest. Very ambiguous and tricky.

Sigh.. group assignments. My assignment for UNIB20007 was going so well - everyone was pitching in and we finished the written part of the assignment well in advance. As for the presentation... well no one else was prepared for our rehearsal yesterday and only tonight has the transcript been finalised (and it definitely could be better). In other words, we'll be winging it tomorrow having not been able to practice it beforehand. >_< I can only hope that the majority of our marks are awarded for the written component and that our tutor thinks kindly of our presentation. :/

Our group sort of winged ours. We practised our speeches but had no idea how to make everything creative so we pretended to be professors from Brave New World (and didn't even bring lab coats in lol). Even so I think we got like 24/25 or something so the tutors are pretty lenient

First off that fail shouldn't come on your transcript at all... I believe its only if you fail the subject altogether. Secondly, remember that though it might be 25%, there is still another 75% left - you haven't said anything about the actual subject you are taking so I can't really say much on that part. Don't be afraid or think it's all over, there is still much more to go! Keep working and you won't have to worry!

Thanks very much both of you for your advice. It makes me feel so much better when I feel other people actually care about you, even if we've never ever met before!

At seretide, the subject is corporate law so the rest of the assessment is just the exam which is really similar to the actual assignment! Im worried that I won't be able to sufficiently learn the right way of writing in time for the exam but I really want to pass the subject!

At emdiz, is it stupid to think that I'm embarrassed to go and ask my tutor for help, especially since they know I've failed an assignment already? I just don't want to, I guess reveal who I am since our names aren't written in our assignment. Nd this is because when in class I get asked questions I can never answer or I always just stammer when I speak. So I don't really feel confident going up :(

Thanks in advance

No, not at all! I totally understand how you feel because I'd probably be the same! But at the end of the day, your tutors are there to help you and in my experience, the teaching staff are more than happy to help you when you ask. You've got nothing to lose by asking for a hand and you don't want to get your final grade and look back wishing you had asked for help rather than being too shy about it.  :) :)

From what I've heard, honours is like 60 hours of lab work/lectures for most science subjects. I have no idea why you'd want to take extra classes on top of that.

No you can't take honours while doing your dip Lang, they don't let you graduate until you've finished your diploma.

D8 I'm studying in frank Tate and it's like, 3am and suddenly there's piano music coming from somewhere and I have no idea where and it's creeping me the fuck out.

How pedantic are the chem exam markers when it comes to significant figures? Do you lose marks if the answer is not given to the correct sig fig?

does anyone doing honours here know if you get any results before the gemsas census date mid-year (basically any mid year grades)? It would be much appreciated  :)
