What assignment emdiz? Maybe someone here can help you access the LMS? And if you can't upload, you can probably send an email to the coordinator explaining your unfortunate situation and attach your assignment with the email?

Hope everything works out okay for you.

Frontiers of phys. I've got everything I need to do the assignment so I'm okay on that front, its more so just submitting it! I asked a friend who works in the student centre and she said it's probably just because of the major change and it should all be fixed by tomorrow so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks for the help guys!

Good luck to all second year Biomedicine students sitting the first BIOM20002 mid-semester test tomorrow. I'm really hoping public transport doesn't screw everyone over.

95+ pls.

Back in 2011, the medalist for Commerce got like 93 WAM if I'm not wrong. As for Science, I'm pretty sure it will be higher than that. Fyi, most BSc medalists in the past were Maths/Physics majors.

That's very interesting! I figured it'd be high for science. I was in Math/Phys but changed to comp sci recently, so like, if its the fact that they are math/phys students and not the math/phys subjects that are making these people get the medal, then I totally fit the description! Anyway I'll need high 90's for the rest of my degree to get up there, and that's looking quite tricky with database systems :D:D:D:D vague-est subject so far :D:D:D

Thanks guys!

Actually I was kinda just throwing in a random number but hey.... ::)

Good luck 2nd years. HSF MSTs aren't too bad iirc. With the strike going on, I'm probably going to try get to uni by 8.30 for my medical/applied MST at 10 lol.

Ours is 9am. :/ Thankfully, David's been brilliant about it so even if people turn up late I'm confident everyone will get a fair go. :)

I pretty much wanted to cry during that mid-semester test. That was absolutely terrible. T_T

Haha, yeah saw your lot coming out of Wilson Hall. Was it phys that was hard?

Physiology is one of those subjects where you actually have to UNDERSTAND what's going on. Unfortunately, a quick flick through lecture slides before the MST or exam won't do. There is a fair bit of memory work as well, but its mainly focused around the concepts, some which take time to truly understand and appreciate.

I found the best way to study Phys was to watch lectures, readings, YouTube things that were unclear. Once you think it's clear try explaining the concept to yourself (or your friends, family whatever, better with friends). If they can understand what's going on then try thinking about what happens if you play around with physiological conditions. Then try fitting it into the bigger picture (everything's really integrative in physiology).

Also try doing as many questions as possible (silverthorn has a few), if you got the answer right, check if you got it right for the right reasons (or just took a random guess lol). If you got it wrong, check out where your reasoning went wrong. Once everything falls into place and makes sense, you'll love it (I did, especially the nervous system phsyiology hence my decision to major in neuroscience).

Heads up lads ! Our PHYS cohort was in the same position last year with more than half of us failing the first MST (worth 15%), we ended up being one of the better cohorts at the end though. Even if you get a 0 on the test (highly doubt anyone did lol) you can still get a H1- quote by Charles.

They unexpectedly put in more questions this year so many people didn't finish. I actually understood the physiology questions but the problem was that I was so rushed I couldn't read them closely enough and had to rush to some sort of answer. And anatomy is a bit of a weak point, which I knew, but would actually have been alright if we had just a little more time to think. Oh well. Luckily it's only worth 10%, and maybe with a poor cohort performance some moderation may take place.

Met up with a friend for lunch and he spent the whole time complaining about it. Apparently the lecturer put something about osmolarity or something?? Something the lecturer spent like only a couple of minutes on and it appeared in 7 questions? Haha sucks man but you'll be fine! Just a mid-sem, good luck for the 20% mid-sem on microbiol tomorrow next week D:.

That was fair game - people who revised properly should have been able to do it. I knew how to do it, but had 3 minutes remaining and made a complete mess of those 7-8 multiple choice questions. I think we were supposed to have a 45 mark paper, to be completed 45 minutes, but they added in two more short answer questions than what they said there would be so we had 55 marks to complete in 45 minutes. I also sat my exam in the Carillo Gantner theatre which wasn't ideal in the first place, but the lighting issue made things a bit more difficult. In all honesty though, that wasn't the reason for not performing well.

It will be interesting to see what will happen when they get the data, because previous cohorts have found it relatively easy and have done extremely well.

For most of the MSTs everybody usually lost a fair few marks for phys.

As if they added SA without telling you though? That's pretty dog....

Yep, we were told there would only be two short answer questions (one for anatomy and one for physiology), not four. Do you recall if it was 45 marks, 45 minutes for you guys? I don't recall ever having an exam where the number of marks was more than the number of minutes available (almost always it's one minute per mark). I know they extended our test to cover lectures 1-30 rather than 1-20 (which made sense) so we had the upper and lower limbs come up which I don't think would have been on your test. We also didn't get reading time, but it wasn't indicated that we'd get reading time anyway.

I guess it's time to stop beating myself up about it and just see how it all goes. I'm just disappointed though because I think having those extra 10 minutes could have made an insanely massive difference.

From memory it was 45 marks, 45 minutes. They only did lectures 1-20, despite initially saying it'd be 1-30.

Last year's MST was an odd one. The cohort did reasonably well, with the average somewhere in the mid 70s, so they may be trying to bring it down.
Personally, I did pretty poorly on it—ended up below the average for that one!
