I think it's fair. Unis that limit to their own students do so at the detriment of other med-hopefuls from other unis, so if Monash does it then there shouldn't be a problem with Melb doing it. I think the best option would be like a union of Melbourne with other non-MD restricted unis like Deakin, so Flinders/Monash people can't apply to Melb but Deakin and RMIT can

Hey guys, so the perquisites for physiotherapy for second year - is it just anatomy and physiology? It's not too specific here:

Doctor of Physiotherapy
The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) requires prerequisite subjects in human anatomy and in human physiology (one subject of each), with prerequisite subjects to have completed within 10 years of commencing the Doctor of Physiotherapy. For example, if applying for the 2017 intake then prerequisite subjects must have been completed from 2007 onwards.

Approved anatomy and physiology subjects on the lists of approved subjects below will satisfy the requirements for the Doctor of Physiotherapy. A list of additional subjects which have been approved specifically for the Doctor of Physiotherapy is available from the Melbourne School of Health Sciences.

Subjects listed as approved on the Doctor of Physiotherapy list of prerequisites will not necessarily be approved for the Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery. Applicants should refer to the Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Dental Surgery prerequisite lists below to ensure that you have satisfied the requirements for these degrees.

Cheers (Y)
2013-2014:| VCE
2015-2018:| Bachelor of Science (Neuroscience) @ UoM
2019-X:| Doctor of Dental Surgery (discontinued)
2019 -2021:| Master of Physiotherapy

Currently: Physiotherapist working at a musculoskeletal clinic. Back pain, sore neck, headaches or any other pain limiting your study? Give me a PM (although please do see your personal health professional first!)

Any questions related to pathways towards studying dentistry or physiotherapy? Gimmi a PM!

^^Have you gone to the website and looked up the list of preapproved subjects? Should be in there.

RE: The UoM MD being restricted to UoM students, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens eventually but would be fairly surprised if it's brought in next year with no grandfathering period. Overall, the idea is dumb and you can blame Monash for forcing Melbourne's hand to try and attract more VCE high achievers. The idea of a Melbourne Model is excellent but locking people into specific pathways isn't.

Melbourne's also trying to attract students via a new Human Sciences stream for the Bachelor of Science degree. Recently, all the science kids who took Biol10005 received an e-mail regarding "the first new Human Sciences subject being offered in 2016 and building to a stream by 2018."

Considering what they tried to do with the Chancellor's Scholars this year (and the correspondence we received, which I can't go into) don't expect some sort of grace period for the current students. If they want to do something, they'll do it, and they won't care about the current students.

Now I'm interested in what they did with the Chancellor's Scholars. What's with all the unimelb drama recently?

The reason I would be surprised if they change it for entry next year is that it doesn't actually gain them anything. They might withdraw from the consortium but that's not the same thing as restricting entry.

nb I gather that the chancellor's scholars kids had their guarantee of a zone revoked?

Probably best not to talk about this until we are informed in writing by the Med School what is going to happen scholars in our cohort. But can confirm that the scholars in the cohort that is about to graduate were treated in the same way as in previous years. I also feel the need to clarify for all potential scholars this year that contrary to popular belief never were scholars guaranteed their clinical zone of preference. Happy to chat to any potential scholars over PM to address any concerns but yeah best not to talk about this on a public forum until we know for sure what the policy for our cohort of scholars will be.

Hey guys!

Quick question regarding the re-enrolment process... is the re-enrolment simply done through choosing & enrolling in second year subjects? Because I'm pretty sure this is the case, but just want to be certain! Thanks

Yep, just picking subjects in your study plan is considered re-enroling.

I've taken GENE20001 and GENE20002 and they both fit this description (my review on GENE20002 is to come). I know a lot of people who also took PSYC20006 and FOOD20003 this year alongside some rather heavy subjects and also felt the same.

EDIT: GENE20002 review available
