For Economics subjects, it says 'You will be advised of your prescribed texts by your lecturer'... anyone know when exactly we will get told about the books we need?
Is this about intro micro? You don't really need the textbook. You can try the first few weeks without a textbook before deciding if you need one.

I'm registering for my classes now - for Chem 1 (and other subjects), I have lecture 1, 2, 3 and practical 1, tutorial 1, etc. How should I order the lectures, tutes and practicals? Should I place the pracs and tutorials after the lectures?

Yeah same thing happened to me with German 9, so I've had to put both my seminars in a row on Monday. 3 hours straight of German, bringe mich um.

I don't think there's really much you can do if they've gotten rid of that class. Maybe message the German 5 coordinator ([email protected]) just to make sure that the class actually has been cancelled and won't be released later, but other than that you'll probably just have to enrol in the seminar that overlaps with lectures. The lectures will all be recorded though so shouldn't be too much of a problem. Have fun with cultural studies lel
Thanks man, you're a legend. <3

Also I figure if did the diploma starting at German 7 I'd have to do extra, purely cultural units just to satisfy the amount of subjects you need for the diploma, so this is (sort of) better. In that sense I can live with German 5.

the tutorial will usually(not always) be based on what you've done the week before so don't worry too much about where you put it-probably for chem though it might be good to not have it on monday/tues just in case (unlike any other subject) the lecturers get behind or something along those lines. pracs can go anywhere, basically they split everyone in the subject up so you won't all be doing pracs in order anyway.

this is called an SAS appointment where they ask about your expectations for uni , set goals etc, answer any questions and check how you're doing with the whole transition thing. I'd recommend going only because they are friendly faces and can be really helpful if you start struggling later in the year, so you can turn to them for help (instead of going to the student centre which I find can be a little confronting.)

how many hours do you guys suggest working per week during uni? Doing a bachelor of commerce, and want to have the freedom socialise on weekends here and there as well as join some societies/clubs and potentially some volunteering (unsure yet). I've read everywhere (basically) under 15 hours if you want to do well, and i feel this is right too. I am thinking around 9-13 hours, but unsure?

thankyou :))

So i was offered a scholarship of $2500 in 6 month installments, for 3 years, but does anyone know when the payments will be made? I mean the money will obviously be used to get uni life started, buy books etc, so should it not be given (the first payment) before uni starts or?

Thank you guys :)

From this website: 'Payment of one off and half-yearly allowances are usually made no earlier than the second fortnightly pay day after the main census dates (31 March or 31 August) (highlighted below).' Otherwise most of the info can be found above I'm assuming

For the human physio 5% thing, do you get that 5% merely by attending lectures or do you have to answer questions in class with it as well? It's only convenient for me to go to 2/3 of the lectures

I'm spending around ~20 hours per week tutoring and also 2-3 hours of basketball refereeing during uni, but i'm aiming for a WAM of ~90. Pretty committed to getting a good result and I don't think this amount of time will seriously hinder my uni results (I was actually considering taking up another 5-10 hour p/w part time job before considering otherwise).

Personally I think it's more about organisation and the ability to minimise distractions + procrastination.

I also think 10-15 hours is a solid amount, but because you're in commerce you might want to consider working/networking as pretty important anyway. I wouldn't say this is a big deal in 1st year but certainly something to keep in mind in future years - you might even find yourself interning somewhere and part timing uni at some point (some of my mates did)!

If things are the same as when I did the subject (which I assume they would be) you have to attend at least 50% of lectures and answer the questions in those lectures to get the full 5%. So if you were to go to 2/3s of lectures and use the clicker in every lecture you go to, you will be fine :)

damn ~22-23 hours is a fair chunk. Looks like 15 hours shouldnt be all too bad then, i want to spend another 2 hours or so volunteering and another 1-2 to societies (idk if thats the time you spend, ill have to find out first hand i guess). Which makes me want to cut work to about 12-13 hours. Money isnt a huge problem, i want enough to fund outings and have a slight saving going on, but at this time there isnt severe savings you can do.

I also think 10-15 hours is a solid amount, but because you're in commerce you might want to consider working/networking as pretty important anyway. 10-15 hours sound good. I also want to try and hit a WAM of 90, and have a shot at deans list, so i don't want my time to be hindered greatly.

All in all, sounds good. Whilst we're on this topic, any thoughts on working Saturday mornings? Do people go out often Fridays?
