Gosh the markers for BCMB20005 reports are RUTHLESS

So many marks to be lost for missing tiny details...but on the other side of the coin at least you get some marks and can pass for making a genuine effort lmao

"What?! You used size 12 Calibri instead of size 11 Cambria?! MINUS 2 MARKS FOR YOU!".

In all seriousness though, from what I've experienced so far, BCMB20005 is easy enough to pass, but hard to do well in. Even when you read the rubrics for the formal reports, you can still get a decent amount of marks if you get some of the more intricate concepts wrong, so long as you don't screw up the general structure/formatting and still understand the basic gist of what's going on.

really interested in this
can first years do intensives?
Yep! You may have to talk to your student centre at the start of Semester 2 if you still want to do four subjects though, since July Winter intensives count as Sem. 2 subjects on your study plan for some dumb reason, so you need permission to 'overload' even though you're not really overloading :P Maybe they've fixed that problem by now though.

Or you can just do three subjects next Sem. and give yourself an easier time :)

Just got feedback for a piece of assessment this morning that said 'be aware of what the acronyms and abbreviations you use stand for, e.g. when using the acronym 'ATM,' you should not write 'ATM machine' as 'machine' is already in the acronym.

This was an essay analysing a medieval document (no mention of ATM's, unsurprisingly) and I did not use a single acronym throughout. What even  ??? ??? ???

Yes. The reason you require permission to 'overload' is because the assessment for an intensive is often due 4-7 weeks after the actual teaching period, which puts it during Semester 2. This does mean you are technically doing more than the normal 4 subjects during Semester 2, thus the need to request an overload.

If you want to do it, submit a request through https://students.unimelb.edu.au/admin/enrolment-variation

Yeah, it's a little weird how that works.

(+ for Auslan I'd highly recommend just getting the assessment out of the way around a fortnight after the intensive week anyway so you don't have to push it into your second semester.)

But you can still do four next semester and then underload sometime next year, or even in your third year. So long as you average out to eight subjects each year, you're fine. 300 total credit points for your degree, 100 every year, and most subjects contribute 12.5 points. So you could do nine subjects in your first year and then only do seven in your third to give yourself an easier time if the content is more difficult.

But you won't be able to manually overload yourself, so you'll have to lodge an application with your student centre. And so long as your grades are decent, they'll usually grant it without question.

Have a search through the BIOM20002 past exams. There's a small number of anatomy questions there.

It's only week 7 + two weeks after the break and I'm so close to burning out. Seriously need a good, long break. Second year is intense with all these mid-sems!

Does anyone know around when timetable registration of Semester 2 subjects will open? Or does anyone remember when it was open in previous years?
