if it makes anyone feel better my marks aren't too hot and I won't be getting a 90 WAM

cosine:
I don't mean to intrude so if it's for personal reasons say no more if you don't want to, but if you don't like your course have you considered transferring to something else? Or to a different uni?
I wouldn't be really stressed with not getting a 90 WAM, since apparently only 3-5 kids in the cohort get that :P (pretty much a 99.95 in VCE terms)

Anyone that has done OB before, what's the secret? I'm pretty overwhelmed and I don't see how some people regard this subject as "easy".
I'm only doing the subject now, but the approach I'm using is to take each case study, write down the fundamentals of it (who, what, when etc.) and then analyse it from the perspective of each of the different topics that could be tested with it (say for Sanrizz, analyse it first from a Culture perspective, then Power/Politics, then Strategy/Structure). Refer back to the chart of possible combinations of case studies and topics (it was in the last lecture and e-mailed to us too); the fact a lot have been crossed off is a life-saver.

As for the micro topics, given you'll just be applying them to your group assignment experience, it's just a matter of grinding out the content. Never been a big fan of them but memory aides like flash cards might help to just drill down the more lengthy, content-heavy bits (e.g. forming, storming, norming, performing, adjourning... eurgh).

I'm thinking about applying for a leave of absence from my OD course. not sure how this will affect things such as HECs and centrelink benefits. I've been quite stressed about what I really want to do with my life and believe that a break for the rest of this year is best for me. Plus I want to give my final and best shot at the GAMSAT in september 2016 and march 2017. Any suggestions and advice you guys can give me?

that is an interesting statistic, where did you get it?

hey guys

how does one go about dropping out of university? do you still have to pay the fees? I had them on HECS but obviously I would still be required to pay them right? and how does one pay them, do i have to pay it right away or when i find a job?

hey cosine you may have made up your mind but feel free to PM me or chat on facebook if you want to talk with someone about uni stuff!

just because dropping out of uni is a big decision. not necessarily a bad one, but definitely a big one!

I also support the suggestion that you seek out advice from the support people through the uni, to make sure you can be super informed before deciding to go through with withdrawing

ugh uni is draining and I don't know why I'm putting myself through this

same goes sjayne, happy to chat any time! PM's welcome

this semester especially I have also felt suuuper drained, consumed by deadlines and assessments to the point where I couldn't function at times this semester! Still haven't fully recovered from the previous 8 weeks of classes and exams are already starting to loom. it's so easy to let uni soak up every second of your spare time. I'm still looking for a way to achieve a much more balanced approach (if anyone has advice on that - please enlighten us :) )

Hello.

I need to talk to someone about Melbourne Uni's offers and scholarships.

I have a feeling that I am simply going to be referred to some uni webpage but i need to have a conversation with someone who understands the system. It does not have to be a representative of the university.

The situation I'm in is a little complex. Its a really long story. For the person whom takes the time to talk to me, you will not be disappointed. Its not about university, vce or an atar. There is just one detail i need confirmation on. And it regards a Melbourne scholarship.

If you have a background and/or understand how melbourne scholarships and offers work. Could you please send me a message? Thanks

Think i heard from someone else on this page that to come top 3 in the cohort (for commerce/biomed) you'd need a wam of 91-93, as i'm considering going to a hotly contested exchange location :P
It might be different for Science though! :)

Pretty sure it's different for science/biomed. I know personally some people with WAMs of 90+ and of heard of some others as well and its definitely higher than just 3 people.

I think it's just for commerce, apparently it's way more tough

yeah i remember really vaguely someone saying that in science there are usually a few math/physics/comp sci kids with very very very high wams like mid-high 90's, and they usually end up getting the award for best science student or whatever it is idk.

for commerce there are less people super high up because the compulsory subjects cover such a wide range of skillsets (ob to qm) that the really specialised people that usually get the super high wams are forced to do things that lower their wam a bit

(super anecdotal shit that i remember very vaguely pls take with a grain of salt)

This may seem like a stupid question, but with the exams at the exhibition building, in order to get their I need a wallet a phone and bag, where do you put that when you going to take your exam.

I figured there'd be more than 3 in science. I wouldn't even be close to competitive if I had to take chem / bio / med subjects !

but mid-high 90's daaaayum I'm gonna have to lift my game this exam period and in semester 2 !

Unfortunately I think I peaked last year with a semester 2 average of 95.75 :'D

Sitting on a 95 average for a semester? wow

If I got a single 90 I'd throw a party and invite everyone I've known since kindergarten

Just going to pop in and remind everybody that ATARNotes is not a representative sample of the average Uni student. Particularly with exams coming up, I'd hate for new students in particular to feel disheartened about their own results with all this discussion of WAMs in the high 80s-90s. There are some very bright and wonderful people on this forum who achieve great things and who will go on to do even greater things, but please don't think that they represent the average Uni student—hell they probably don't even represent the best in your class.

Good luck for exams everyone and congrats to everyone who is killing it :)

This may seem like a stupid question, but with the exams at the exhibition building, in order to get their I need a wallet a phone and bag, where do you put that when you going to take your exam.

There is storage space outside of the building that looks like a shipping container but inside there's shelves for you to place your bag. You can bring your phone and wallet inside but it needs to be put under the desk and the phone obviously switched off.

Kinda weird how last year in Sem 1 they let us bring our bag inside but then they suddenly didn't let us do that in Semester 2

I'm feeling the urge to promote my plastic bag idea once again.
