Off topic, but can anyone give me some good cheap food recommendations?
In particular, where is the closest place to the Parkville campus I can get good dumplings? lol
Theres only so many subways and kebabs I can take  :P

It's a general chat so it's not really off-topic. If you're willing to commute to Melb Central I suppose there's Shanghai Street, but I haven't heard of any places on campus that serves dumplings ;(

This thread used to be so popular. I remember I used to have it open during my lectures in first year and we used to guess who everyone was in real life  ;D  Those were the days, and now I feel old.

Hope everyone is enjoying their semester! Make sure to keep a track of assignment due dates and to make plenty of time for yourself.

Yeah this thread is really inactive now. I've noticed, once a member completes their undergraduate degree and goes onto doing post-grad they become inactive very quickly.

I'm in my last semester. Really, really tired - at the same time excited to finish. I've applied for MD and waiting for interview offers to come out (two more weeks). What's everyone elses plan? Work? More study? Gap year? :)

Currently: Physiotherapist working at a musculoskeletal clinic. Back pain, sore neck, headaches or any other pain limiting your study? Give me a PM (although please do see your personal health professional first!)

Any questions related to pathways towards studying dentistry or physiotherapy? Gimmi a PM!

Damn that's interesting, but having gone through the rigours of full time work can definitely agree with the sentiment; it just becomes virtually impossible to keep up several interests and a real need to prioritise given the workload that some jobs can bring.

I've fortunately got my grad role sorted, so i'm just planning on exploring what there is of uni that i haven't had the opportunity to do over the past year and a half!

Yep, I've been active on this thread for the last three years and I can tell you that as soon as post-grad or work life starts members immediately become inactive. I agree with that - I guess life is just more demanding afterwards - not just study and work - a lot of my friends at that age start to be in close relationships, start spending more time with family, etc - I guess these stuff take over. It's a bit scary when I think about it - if from next year I don't even have the time to do something as small as checking what's up on AN, what else will I have to sacrifice?

That's cool! What graduate studies are you thinking of specifically?

The benefits of hanging out here just slowly decline over time. You'll have time to check in whilst doing post grad whatever, there's just not much incentive for you to do so and the comments are much less relatable so you usually just read the thread and close the tab. You don't need to make radical sacrifices, relax.

It depends on what sort of interview it is, but generally the university is quite lenient given accurate documentation

Grats on the interview offer rktr, I'm assuming it's for med? Can't comment on the special consideration issue apart from agreeing with orb's assumption - what uni is it at?

anyone have experience applying for special consideration due to a hospital stay? I haven't been discharged yet but I've missed a lot and I'm hoping I have enough evidence

is it worth getting my doctor to do a HPR? I have a short letter and a medical certificate from the hospital so far

Hah it's probably not a coincidence that I open this thread for the first time in a while and this is the first thing I see...

The benefits of hanging out here just slowly decline over time. You'll have time to check in whilst doing post grad whatever, there's just not much incentive for you to do so and the comments are much less relatable so you usually just read the thread and close the tab. You don't need to make radical sacrifices, relax.

Yeah, it's pretty much this. The conversations here become less relatable as time goes on - once you get to a honours/a grad degree (coursework or research) the courses become more specific and focused, so the chance of someone here doing your course become pretty much zero. I generally find that graduate students form tighter groups as well (n=1, of course, and should have been more outgoing in my undergrad, in retrospect...)

There's also the factor that you become less anonymous to your lecturers as well - makes one a bit more reluctant to be completely candid on a forum such as this.

That's cool! What graduate studies are you thinking of specifically?

Reinforcing what Russ said, it's not that you become so busy that you can't spending thirty seconds checking up on a forum, it's just that your interests change and the going ons here become less relatable.

To be honest, I feel sometimes that I was busier in undergrad (especially around assessment periods) - I took a pretty heavy course load, was working (not as much as other people, but still) and managed to maintain a decent GPA. Could also just be that the work now is more interesting and less tedious.

Haha, I think I'm one of the newer students keeping this forum relatively active :P It would be good to have more first year students on like it sounds like it was like on here a couple of years ago though :(

Anyway, in people's experience (or any current students doing macro now?), do assignments strictly have to be near the word limit? I've tried all the questions in the macro assignment (there were 4 in total, worth 3,3, 2 and 2 marks), and I'm just under 500 words (for a 1000 limit), and don't see that there's much else I can add t o the discussion... For the 1000 word micro assignment I would have to cut down on every word just to be within 1100, but those had many more questions, worth 20 marks, but both assignments count 10%??? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

From experience you really don't need to write nearly as many words for these assignments.

When I did macro my assignments were all 20-30% below word count and still got upwards of 90% for each assignment
