Wow, it has changed so much.
We only had Terry, Robb, Roy, Vicki and Tom.
It seems that they finally gave in and took some stuff out haha.
It is the most whinged about subject but it is really helpful because you learn so much so it helps you with so many other subjects!
It sucks that Sandra from micro/immune doesn't really teach undergrad any more.  She is like the absolute best.  It was one of the few cool things about doing biomed... But Roy is a legend I agree.  His stories are so interesting and yeah, he always is good for a laugh. :)

It sounds like you had a good handle on it.
I was lucky because I was able to dedicate so much time to it and also, as you said, it was probably easier to score high in previous years because if you learnt everything, it was all recall.  Now it is probably harder and more application based.
I pretty much did no work for Principles of Genetics and GHS and just focused all my time on MCB... a lot of other people have more difficult subjects such as biopsych and techniques in biochem.

But I agree on path, it is so content heavy and taught kind of badly.
It took me forever to learn it and I have never really felt that I understood it tbh.

hey stonecold do you think i'll be at much of a disadvantage if i haven't done principles of genetics for genes and genomes?
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

You won't be at a disadvantage because you haven't done Principles.  The content is completely different. :)
Principles is all about calculations whereas this subject does not require virtually any complicated calculations.
It is more or less about molecular genetics rather than inheritance, mendelian genetics and population genetics, phage etc. which is covered in Principles.

The half a dozen biomed students who take it will probably be at an advantage though because when I did MCB, like half of the genetics content in Genes and Genomes was already taught in MCB.  MCB seems to have changed though so I cannot be sure...

When I use Portal on the iPad, I have a hard time scrolling down at all such as if I were to view my exam timetable, or exam results etc. When I try, it just bounces the whole page up and down rather than scrolling up or down. If you're having a hard time comprehending what that meant scroll down to the bottom of this page and keep trying to scroll (touchscreen); it will just bounce up and down. But this happens at the top of the page for some areas of Portal. Normally to rectify this issue I have to refresh a few times in the hope that it will work eventually, or use a different device.

Is there a better way to get around this?

Ok try this:
Portal > Student Admin > Go to Exams and Results > View my Recent Results. Then try to scroll down.
I normally use Study Plan to check results, but this is just an example of what happened with the exam timetable.

@golden

You have to use backdoor entry on iPhone and iPad.
It is the only way I have gotten it to work.

Chrome also seems to be more elegant, I'll keep with that lol.

Use the admin online link.
It gives direct access to the main study plan which is inset so that you can actually scroll.

Fuck the uni is useless.  The new portal failed just as bad as the old one with timetabling and you can't even use the new one on tablets and phones when you could with the old one...

It's been working perfectly for me since it was implemented, and it works perfectly on my phone as well.
It's definitely better than the old one, in my opinion :P
(Remember, on QS World Rankings UniMelb scores 46.8/100 for its student faculty, we could never have expected it to be organised and smooth.)

I'm bored and have nothing to do so have tried many permutations to observe which one works best. If you go to the page and it doesn't work, turn your screen sideways so that the iPad adjusts (turn the screen lock off) - it seems to work. But I think I'll use Admin Online.

You know how there's a border to the very edge of the screen? Try scrolling there. Like, not dragging up the main center of the screen, but right to the side (the left side works for sure, I got it to work last night :P)
