Heeeey does anyone know if there are any opportunities for a Summer exchange? Part of me really wants to go on exchange, and the other part of me doesn't want to go through the process of potentially cocking up pre-reqs and/or messing with my wonderful plan for the next 3 years. It hit me that maybe a Summer exchange would work - but then I realised that Summer exchanges probably don't exist lol

I researched a fair bit into Exchange and I never heard of a summer option.  I felt the same about messing up my plan... everyone I know who went on exchange had to delay graduating for 6 months.

Damn. Thanks though! How did they get that covered in their 300 points? Or did they pay for an extra 50 points of subjects?

EDIT: Update, I've just been reading about the Study Abroad system. It would mean I would have to pay upfront for the subjects to the host university, but you can do Summer Schools through this system (rather than Exchange).

Probably I'd say. There's a way of doing that, though normally they do contact you a few times apparently unless they just hate you like they hate me and never contact you at all..... (ok that was melodramatic)
Erm okay. I will just wait for another call then. It doesn't matter if I have an appointment with them after the sem 1 commences for fresh people?

At clinic my supervisor signed off things I hadn't done on my hurdle sheet and when I got home I found out Friday's afternoon class had been cancelled, meaning I finish at 10.30am tomorrow morning.

This day was excellent

Nah, particularly if you do know some older students as well you should be fine.

And look, with that said, I came in as the first as my family, first from my school to do biomed and from a rural town and I don't think I've got lost just yet, so if I can manage without it I daresay you can to :) Moral of the story: don't fret!

UROP seems to take engineering students, and seems like a fun time. Does anyone know when the actual dates of employment are (looking at Simpak)?

What do you mean Hancock?  It depends on which round you apply and how long your placement lasts.  If you apply in the next round which is opening relatively soon, you'll begin in June or July and finish in December.  You can finish earlier though!  You don't have to work during periods of assessment, SWOTVAC or the official exam period.  If you have an assignment due you can ask for time off and it needs to be granted.

Oh I thought this would be like a winter break sort of job. Ah well, I've got Uni 2 days a week in Sem 2 so I'll apply and see what happens.

If there is funding, you can keep working longer than a semester. I was in UROP from S2 of second year until I finished my BSc, then stayed on as a research assistant in the same group for another 2.5 years.
