Is there a way I can do level 2 chemistry in second year without actually doing chemistry 1 and 2 in first year? Can I sit the test for chemistry 1 and 2 without actually doing it?

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh I wasn't at the GHS lecture today, but during the next GHS lecture I cannot wait to try and guess who Sinner and DrBroScientist are. El2012 and I can team up. Unless ofc Sinner and DrBroScientist also decided not to attend lectures or labs, in which case I'll try and spot you at Queensberry

EVERYBODY LOOK UNDER YOUR SEATS

BECAUSE YOU'RE ALL GOING HOME WITH A RESPECTTTTTTTT POIIIIIIIIIINT~~~~~~!!!!!

Hahahahah this is a good point that reminded me of Flora of Victoria n___________n

love u. I took a similar approach and everything has turned out very well both grade and extracurricular activity wise. I think if I micromanaged or pushed myself to do things I didn't want to do, I would burn out and be miserable.  Study habits require adjustment to your personal style; many people thrive on setting clear goals alongside consistent studying/sleeping/eating habits, and do brilliantly.

I go a fortnight without doing anything but attending the mandatory tutorials, and then BAM. I WANT A NOBEL PRIZE. In a field that I invented. Advanced gastronomical fantasiology, specializing in vector butts. So I pull 15 straight hours  of study running on caffeine, and actually enjoy myself a lot.

You missed nothing at all, there wasn't anything relevant and the lecture was rather dull for an into one imo

Yes, but you'd have to demonstrate lab experience as well as an ability to pass the chemistry exams. I did exactly that; got out of chem 1 and 2. You're best asking Dr Stephen Best, Director of First Year Studies (where I went) and see what he says. You'll probably have to sit an exam or two at some stage.

Well first day was probably better than I expected, although I was so rusty in Italian it wasn't even funny and I already got plenty of homework for the subject. =_= The trade-off is that I got today off since Chemistry tutorials and practicals don't run in week 1. :)

Ok, thanks man, I will talk to him and see what happens.
Science Student Centre said they will prevent me from doing that and that it is only possible if I both get permission from Best and get a high average mark in first year subjects.

Just go to Dr Best, make sure he is happy with your chem knowledge, then get him to email the other subject coordinators to email you of their willingness to let you enrol in that subject. Only when you have that email do you go to the Student Centre.

SSC don't have a lot of power ultimately. They can help with simple things but if you want to break the 'rules' you need to go to people in charge.

@El2012 and Sinner, I'm just proud of the subject for even uploading lectures. Comparative Nutrition and Digestion hasn't sent out a single email. Or announcement. Or lecture. Or discussion forum post. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FORSAKE ZOOLOGY. I'M SO SORRY, ZOOLOGY. AND BOTANY. I'M SORRY FOR MY 'FUCK PLANTS' STANCE :C

I'm sorry...but what have they done to the Arts West since first year?!
Why the heck did they turn a large set of stairs into a weird mirror art piece.... I wonder what genius came up with that idea... :o
Now there is a queue that is about 100m long just to get into a lecture theatre  ???

oh my god I still see people climbing up those stairs thinking it's an exit and almost walking into a mirror. It's like watching a budgerigar trying to understand how the little mirror in his cage works.

Remember the gentleman who stands near the tram stops, selling the Big Issue? Who never says a word? He just (rather impressively) stands there for consecutive hours on end, almost every single weekday? He's such a fixture that I didn't realize he was  there until I heard him greet me with 'good morning'. HE RECOGNIZED ME. ACTUALLY. I'M SO FLIPPING HAPPY.

If not, does anyone really care if you turn up to another lecture stream?

Nope! And they don't check if you're in the correct one.

Sick of looking for used textbooks for Intro Microeconomics and Finance 1, close to giving up and just buying them from the co-op store

Before you rush into any hasty, unbelievably expensive textbook-related decisions:

  • Get the textbook's ISBN (you can find this with a google search)
  • Copy/paste the ISBN into the search-bar at booko.com.au

It gives you a list of new textbooks (maybe used ones too?) sorted by price - I've saved probably a couple hundred dollars on textbooks by getting them new and cheaper via booko, so you might like to have a look. If anything, you can use a low price that you find on that to haggle down someone who wants to sell their used textbook :)
