It's somewhat bullshit though given that Labour day only exists because UniMelb was the worst employer in the world...

Two lecturers consecutively told us the same 'legend' today.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_labour_movement
On 21 April 1856 Stonemasons and building workers on building sites around Melbourne stopped work and marched from the University of Melbourne to Parliament House to achieve an Eight hour day. Their direct action protest was a success, and they are noted as being among the first organised workers in the world to achieve an 8 hour day, with no loss of pay.

And the picture:

Wow our lecturer for Fundamentals of Chem is a really sweet guy but that was the worst explanation of orbitals I can possibly imagine... So glad I had Khan Academied that schtick beforehand...

Just think of orbitals as a place where electrons spend 90% of their time (an orbital is defined as the region of space where there is a 90% chance you'll find an electron) and that quantum mechanics places limitations on how many orbitals there are as well as their electron holding capacity.

Thanks... I know what they are. I was just commenting on the poor explanation provided by the lecturer.

I take it you're now in the neuroscience/embryology areas? Don't worry, those are probably the hardest units of the subject. Just try to remember the basic principles (e.g. white, grey matter) and the derivations of the latin words, and you'll pull through.

And sorry to double post, but is anyone having issues with the uni WiFi?

I seem to connect but have no access, then automatically reconnect a few times before it finally wakes up and connects properly (takes about 5 minutes).

I'm guessing this happens because I use the eduroam SSID rather than the UniWireless one. I never had the issue last year though and did the same thing.
Nah it's been pretty shoddy this semester. It was fine over summer and towards the end of semester 2 2013, so it might be struggling to cope with all the new sign-ups to the system, etc.

I'm using UniWireless and it sucks crap. It's fine in lecture halls (presumably because less people are on it?) but otherwise it is just intermittent.

It constantly cuts out when people are hovering over my computer waiting for me to open an email and I just can't take it anymore.  And then they judge me for not connecting to ethernet yet.

Ethernet speed:

My wifi speed:

I can't fix this until I have the adapter for my macbook though ;--;

Something like that happened earlier today, not now for me though

The sound that I made when I saw that first picture has never been heard before. That is insane speeds!
