Hey guys, I'm after some advice for a UROP application.
There's no denying that the circumstances in my life (two immediate family members have died from cancer, I looked after them both) were one of a few driving factors behind my desire to go back to uni and study science/biomed engineering/research.  It is not, however, the ONLY reason.
I'm not sure whether it would be wise to put this 'reason' on the application (they ask for motivations, reasons for wanting to do research etc).  I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to score sympathy points or something.  Or maybe it could be seen as 'not a lasting motivating factor'.
It's not the only reason so I have a few others I can list but I'm just not sure if it would hinder (or help???) my application by mentioning that particular fact.
Any thoughts from outsiders?

It's not about the art it's about sending a message.

Basically suck up to the tutor as much as possible - since fine art is an entirely subjective discipline; and theyre the ones grading you.

Probably also the primary reasons why i failed so hard at architecture. -.-"

Actually, due to a technical error my tutor (David Ralph) wasn't the one who  (John Neeson) assessed my work. Which is actually terrific because I was kind of a bitch through my tutorials :'c hooray avoided a H3

Hi guys. I'm thinking about doing a late switch into Genetics, Health and Society. Would it be hard to catch up, and when is the first assessment?

Thanks

No, definitely not hard to catch up. Most of it has just been 1st year genetics/reproduction.

I don't even know when the first assessment is. Says the MC tests will be spread evenly throughout the semester, so I guess around week 4.

A very specific question, but does anyone know whether workshops for biomed are compulsory or not ? I have an appointment that I booked last year which coincides with my workshop tomorrow, and I don't know whether to miss the workshop or the appointment.

definitely not compulsory and not even really worth going to. The one time i went to a workshop, there was at most 20 people from my prac group of over 100 lol. They really should turn that in to a proper tute or something. Some people found it useful, many did not.

Oh thank goodness! :D You, my friend, just saved me another 5-month long wait! I'll go next week to see how it is to judge whether I'd find it useful. Thanks again. :)

I went to every single workshop and will likely require 1000s of dollars worth of visits to the psychiatrist before I can undo the damage they did.

I dotn know about everyone else, but i think the whole 2nd year biomed cohort is receiving counselling after hearing an enzyme song to the tune of Rebecca Black's Friday song.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deFQhPurj-k

I think that's a genius idea. It was the first time I had heard the tune of Friday in its entirety anyway :P
