Thanks for the quick responses notveryasian, Mr. T-Rav and thank you for the advice Nicola and Chicken.
And Chicken, I'm also doing Finance 1 and that has a hurdle for the exam (although the exam is already worth 80% of the assessment... 80% of an entire subject's outcome decided in just 2 hours is ridiculous lol)
I'm not really aiming for "just a pass", needa keep up the 65% average to get into Engineering lol
I was just curious because my RMIT friends were saying they need to get 45%+ on their exams to pass the subject so I was curious about Melbourne's requirements.
Most finance subjects have 70-80% final exams

in saying that though, if you know your stuff then you'll be fine in the exam. My advice would be go over every tutorial question and understand how to do every question - analyse the formulas and what each variable means - this is incredibly important when they quote figures in different time periods.
IMO don't aim to just achieve the 65 average. There are plenty of reasons, here are a few!
- The job market is extremely competitive these days, a 65 ave may be the minimum required to apply for some firms, but 'only' having a 65 ave will limit the grad jobs you can apply for. Some places will only look at your application if you have >75 - even in engineering. Furthermore, engineering opens some doors for you, you can consider moving into consulting/advisory, finance as some examples - which again are very competitive industries.
- Also, when applying for engineering vac work/grad programs your average is simply an average across all your subjects - there is no weighting. So your first year subjects are worth as much as your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th (except capstone which is worth 2x since it's 25 credit points) I think the weighting is only considered for applying for post graduate courses.
- If you want to go on exchange your average will determine where you can go. Due to demand some places require >80 ave.
- The higher level subjects require a good understanding of what you have learnt previously.
For what it's worth I hated ESD2 haha
