Because you're not allowed to put your bike in the bike cages (because they literally stored extra police in there) and because you weren't allowed to park them outside and chain them there either because they 'might get damaged' by protestors.

It was legit hilarious.  When I rocked up this morning there were already like 600 police everywhere.  The security was apparently ridiculous - I was allowed to walk directly in to the building past about 20 police but my friends apparently got asked like 'who is your supervisor' before they were allowed to go upstairs, just to confirm they weren't anti-Abbott bandits.  And then the protestors came and there were like 10 of them.  Okay maybe like 100 tops.  And they were beat boxing, and we were watching from level 10 (as you can see today was very productive for everyone).  And they had police ON HORSES, ON FREAKING HORSES. For a 100 person protest.  Loved it.  Anyway, then after Abbott came they thought he was like, in the foyer, but he was really touring a lab.  And so they all tried to break in to the foyer and we were all in the dept admin office watching everything happen (eg Abbott walking around + protestors storming the building) through the security cameras.  And suddenly they all broke in and like 5000 police poured out of the bike storage facility and like pushed them all out, it was the most exciting moment of my life and I was watching from like 8 floors above! Some guy outside was carrying around a black flag - just a black flag!  And the people controlling the security camera kept zooming in to take some good snaps of his face - what a sinister character.  And then Abbott made a silly speech and some other people made silly speeches.  And then they played a ridiculous vid which was lulzy for all, since 50% of the department were featured in it.

And then they gave us a 'afterward ceremony' thing because we weren't allowed to go to the actual ceremony with the opening because it was only for important people.  They legitimately had like 3 plates of food for 200 people I kid you not.  More people turned up to this afternoon tea than protestors to the building in the morning however the police outnumbered trays of food like 400:1.

What a severe disappointment.

The Age reported 200 people but I'd estimate probably closer to 150 (from what I saw after I walked out of a biochemistry lecture.)

The black flag is an anarchist flag.

Re the horses and over 5000 cops, I don't think they're taking any chances after what's happened to other politicians (Julie Bishop was pretty much assaulted at USyd.) That said, Abbott's a former boxer, I'm fairly sure he could take them all on?

If we're being taught essentially the same two Science subjects then why are they purposely reducing the number of resources for us while still giving them out to Science students?

Ahhh, good ol' science vs. biomed.

Also thanks for getting me to 200 respect :')

haha i was up in frank tate. he recognises me from studying in physics/erc mostly though >.<
i totally would but i feel like you wouldn't appreciate 7/11 coffee/hot chocolate and nothing else is open late nights.

also i just got through the most intense during semester uni week i've ever had. 2 midsems, 1 assignment, 2 lab reports and 3 assessed homework tasks in a week whilst having a disgusting cold is 11/10 uncool. :< the quality of everything i turned in was awful. :(

This darned eFly assignment. I reckon I'm trying to attempt it without having covered all the content yet in lectures (i.e. we've done monohybrid crosses and lethality but haven't really talked about reciprocal crosses, back crosses or linkage yet).

genetics is making me cry for the following reasons:

* The question set in the biol workbook does not have solutions, neither do the worksheets. I have no idea if my answers are right.

* Dawn does a grand total of one example in her lecture. I wish she would do more, so I can actually attempt her problem sets with some idea of what is going on.

* I don't know what to write for the assignment.

I am sooo stressed right now. It's like we are already expected to know everything. But I don't know the fundamentals of punnet squares, so I don't know how I'm going to tackle the problems. I'm really trying though, but I'm clutching at straws.  :(

Be careful with that assignment and don't leave out ANYTHING, I remember they marked it pretty pedantically.

Send Dawn your working out and she might tell you whether you're right or not (lecturers would appreciate it more than just "pls give answers").

Hot tip: if you get <H1, ask them to look at the assignment once you get it back, they almost always mark it up (mine went up four grade boundaries) due to difference in how the assignments are supposed to be marked and how most of the Masters/PhD students have marked them.
