Yeah, but those are private universities and I'm sure the same laws apply don't overseas as they do here.

Also the philosophy lecturer was really scary and reminded me of professor trelawney from Harry potter

that's the only thing I could think throughout the whole lecture!!!
It seems just a tad bit intense! :P

Also, random question, did you catch the train from glen at 8.50 and sit in the back carriage?

@Muuru: I guess that's true - given my (apparently) very high level of autonomy for my age group I should be able to plead a case to the university if maturity is their concern, but otherwise I'll just take your advice and remind them that people my age, and younger, get accepted into universities elsewhere without incident. I know your post doesn't really clear anything up, but it makes me feel a little more confident that I'm not the only one thinking it's just a protocol :3

I have a question for someone who's doing Arts and a Diploma of Language (Spanish) at first year :
What's the maximum number of subjects, total, that a student can take at first year?
(And also, for me, what's the maximum number of subjects I can take at first year without a concurrent diploma?)

All first year students are not allowed to overload (go over 100 points) under any circumstances. So the maximum number of courses you can take at first year is 8 classes.

So, what are the extra 25 points in first year that are apparently available used for? Is there any reason they were mentioned in the advice booklet?

The extra 25 points in first year are for use in 2nd and (if you wish) 3rd year. So, let's say you want to do engineering and you haven't done Specialist Mathematics. You'll complete 8 classes in first year, and you'll complete Linear Algebra in 2nd year, totalling to 9 first year classes. You now have space for 1 more first year class, which will probably be a breadth class I think.

Alright, so I'll be able to take a small number of non-German breadth subjects in my second and third year? That's good, then. One FINAL question before I stop flooding the thread with questions, if I take Linear Algebra in the summer semester (it's offered and I want to take it), it doesn't count towards the number of subjects I can take in the main university year, does it?

No it doesn't. You can take a maximum of 100 points per year, irrespective of how many credits you've previously accrued. Remember that you only have 300 points to play around with though. Best of luck with uni this year!

So if I study a unit during summer then I can only do a maximum of 7 units for the rest of the year i.e. during both semester 1 and 2? I thought you could still do 8, or if you do 2 during summer you still do 7 or 8 during semester 1&2.

100 points in the normal Semester 1 and 2 year. My bad, crap phrasing.

One semester = max 50 points (unless overload)
Summer = max 25 points

What are the conditions for doing overload (all years, I know it's not a first year option)?
(Looks like I lied about the barrage of questions.)
