Ummmm Yesss I think so! :)
In the email sent by the subject coordinator, she mentioned that "the classes for Biological Psychology will run in Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12" :)

*Fist pumps*
Was starting to worry about my workload because I've got psych labs scheduled almost consecutively with anatomy and cell biology labs.
On a side note... All this running from the Medical Building to Redmond Barry better be an excuse for me to get fit!

Has anyone done the second year psych subjects before? im thinking of doing a few as breadth, without doing the first year subjects (since the second year subjects dont require it as prerequisite). Will it be too difficult to cope as a breadth?
I did psych in VCE if that helps

I'm only doing Biological Psych and possibly Cognitive this year (I want to major in Neuroscience so they're the most related and my favourite areas within psychology) however I have friends majoring in third year who've all said there's a fair bit of content and I'd assume it to be similar to the content load of MBB1. However, as you're only doing them as breadth it shouldn't be too bad. Unlike MBB1 there's actual report writing involved though which would most likely increase the workload. I'd say, if you think you'll be comfortable with the workload of your other subjects, do it. Remember, you can change within the first week or so, or whenever you find out the workload in case it's too much to manage.

As a breadth, psych would be pretty heavy in terms of content and since the exam accounts for a lot of your score..that said, if you really like psych then you should take it but know that it won't be anything close to a "relaxed" subject (as most other breadths are) :)

thanks for the replies! more specifically i was just wondering are there things taught in MBB1 and MBB2 which would make it really hard to do well in the second year subjects?

Unlike MBB1 there's actual report writing involved though which would most likely increase the workload.

is this similar to Research Methods etc from VCE Psych?

Has anyone had experience with japanese 1 or chinese 1 as breadth subjects? could I become fairly fluent just by doing four breadth subjects in one of these languages considering I have no previous experience with them?  I am thinking of doing either japanese or spanish but can't decide..., I don't want to focus too much on learning languages such as going to extra language schools as I want to mainly focus on engineering, though another language in the pocket is always an advantage  :D

Some things are similar to vce psych (such as the basic things like what is a population/sample/operationalising IV & DV, measures of central tendency, standard deviation, variance) and you'll learn how to do calculations based on them and then you get new things coming in, especially in mbb2 (most of which I don't clearly remember lol me and QM have been sworn enemies since 1&2 psych :P) but things like t-test for independent and related samples and other stuff :/ Lab report writing is the one thing you'd be missing out on if you came into 2nd year psych without having done 1st year. BUT! I remember we had a tute dedicated JUST for lab writing and Quantitative methods and since my lms from last semester is still working, I can download the powerpoints from those tutes and send them to you if you like! :)

If you want to become fluent in languages, pick Spanish or German. You have no hope of doing four units of Jap or Chinese at uni and becoming semi fluent unless you dedicatedly study them. Learn something considered easy and similar to English.

Edit: Also, if you want the language to be worth anything, consider learning one with a lot of speakers. You won't meet many Dutch peeps around, so it's probably wasteful to learn their language. Depends on the individual and the situation, of course, but generally I think it's fair to claim this as holding true.

Nope. I did 4 years of Chinese in high school AND a semester of Japanese in uni and I only know the basics. I've self-studied on top of it but I'm only now good enough to play a game like Pokemon or Fire Emblem in Japanese and understand a little over half of the dialogue. I can read even less in Chinese.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will probably go with German, it may be useful especially in the engineering field. Also does anyone know what time enrolment opens on the 25th of Feb?

Fundamentals is pretty easy. Just allocate set study times for the subject (which i didn't) and you should be able to get a H1 fine :)
