What do they actually do at the subject sessions during O-Week? For example Introductory Microeconomics or Finance. Do they tell what areas you will study throughout the year, which textbooks to get hold of and do they set you some reading to do before classes start?

yeah i was wondering about this as well. I probably won't be able to attend them, so is there anything really crucial that I would miss?

And what's the difference between the course welcome sessions (e.g. Bach. of Arts, Bach. of Biomedicine etc.) in O-week and the sessions for each degree that were held on Academic Advice Day? Is it worth it or much the same?

They just teach you a bit about what uni classes actually are. What a prac is, what a tutorial is, etc.

Wasn't very helpful, don't think it's a major miss if you don't make it to them.

I was wondering about the clubs day on thurs and fri. Do you actually join clubs directly on the day or is it really just getting to know what each club is?

You can join clubs every day of the year, but on Thursday and Friday of O-Week, all the clubs come out and advertise for themselves. It's probably ok to just go on one of the days, because there really aren't enough clubs to warrant 2 full days of searching around.

P.S. Don't join the chocolate club. It's a massive scam.

According to the Science Student Centre, it's 5 working days after your exam. I finished FoEN on Tuesday, so I'm expecting my result to be up by next Tuesday.

Chocolate Club: It's a scam because they only ran like 1 event the entire year and you pay 20 bucks for membership. I literally paid 20 dollars for 4 hot cross buns with chocolate in them. Da fuq.

I had Chemistry 2, so only 5 days ey? Not bad at all

I ended up missing a prac though because a tram broke down on the middle of swanston st, and we were stuck there for about 15 minutes. Then when we were let out we had to walk the rest of the way. So I was 15 minutes late in the end, which meant I couldn't do the prac, and unfortunately that was the very last session for that particular prac

I emailed the chem department and they said that it wasn't a valid reason for special consideration so I just have to take the zero for it :/

Bit unfair?

Yeah that sucks hard. However, it's only 3.33% of your mark so it isn't TOO bad. Still sucks majorly though. When was your exam? Also, I've created a thread called 'Summer Finals and Results 2013' if you're interested in sharing later on ;)

Yeah, a score of 78 would really annoy me
But I shouldn't really complain, I was pretty lazy with all the other pracs anyway; only averaging around 7.7 I think

but yeah dude I probably will share, thanks :)

How would you go about finishing a science degree (engineering) in 2.5 years instead of 3. Can it be done?
