Haha! I had woolworths sushi for lunch today actually  :P
I prefer the generic kind of sushi, Woolworths has tried to be creative and done some wacky stuff which was interesting to try. But I prefer more traditional sushi  8)

Replying to: everyone, including the above.
Okay so it was an experience, but I never new Woolworths could just get sushi chefs and put them right next to the brown onions.  I know this isn't exactly on topic but everything on topic is BORING compared to fast and easy sushi.  Like, if they didn't have their sushi chefs I wouldn't be up for that shit because it'd be like buying sushi at 7/11 which is just never a good idea (not sure if they sell sushi at 7/11 here but w/e).
VERDICT WAS: the handroll I had was bad and my mum said she had one last week and it was also bad but the chilli salmon roll I had was fucking amazing because it had sliced chilli on it.  Also a part of the verdict is that it in no way, shape or form conforms to my current diet.  But it was worth it.  And I'm glad I turned around from the brown onions and was like 'lol tempeh green curry, fuck that'.

Are the online feedback tests for CHEM10007 marked on your percentage score? Or are they just 5% for pass, 0% for fail? Also, there are two sets, is your mark the highest mark for each set or the combined average mark?

Many societies have club/bar nights, end of exam (EOX) parties, foam parties, balls etc.

Yeah you've already missed some big ones, but there are heaps throughout the year
Just join the groups on facebook and they'll keep you updated

Science Student's Society:
http://www.facebook.com/groups/2392884817/?fref=ts
Join the group and you should be invited to all of the events
Foam Party is tomorrow night, but tickets have been sold out.
They usually have bbqs each fortnight, have regular pub nights and are responsible for kegs 'n' sun among other things
Boat Cruise, Science Ball and EOX (End of exams party, runs each semester) are the bigger events that are yet to happen
Membership is $5 and is completely worth it cause of all the free beer, food and discounted ticket prices

Arts Student's Society
http://www.facebook.com/melbourneartsstudentssociety
That will keep you up to date on all of the events
http://www.facebook.com/artemis.prime.52?fref=ts
Add the mascot^ if you want facebook notifications and invitations for each event
Week 3 party obviously already passed, asides from that there are also regular bbqs every 2-3 weeks
There's also a 'Paint and Glow' party which is a pretty big event in semester 2
There will be a MAX party (another end of exams party, runs each semester) and Arts Ball in semester two
There will probably be a few other events throughout the year as well
Membership is $2, same perks apply

Usually EOX is better than MAX, but Arts ball (in the past) has been better than Science Ball, but they all run on different nights so YEAH

University of Melbourne Student Union Activities
http://www.facebook.com/umsuactivities?fref=ts
They hold a BBQ every Monday and Tuesday at North Court from 1pm. Monday's usually have some local or small time band lined up, but on Tuesday's you'll find bands like Snakadaktal, Evermore, Alpine, Washington and a bunch of other pretty well known bands
They're responsible for the Start of Uni Party (happened a few weeks ago) which is definitely one of the best nights in the uni calender
They host trivia nights with really cheap drinks (more enjoyable than you'd think), cocktail parties, Oktoberfest and Prosh Week.
Prosh week, if you choose to get involved in that sort of stuff, will be the most ridiculous, yet most enjoyable, week of your life. I can't stress this enough. It's the kind of stuff you might see in movies. Just a bunch of nudity and ridiculous activities and stunts occurring through out the week.
Membership is compulsory, so you may as well take advantage of all the stuff that's on offer.

Those are the three ones I pay most attention to

There's also the Melbourne University Engineering Students Society, which is another big one
http://www.facebook.com/MUESC?fref=ts
They run stuff like Beer and Chips and other BBQs, have boat parties and have an Eng ball like the Science and Arts societies. They don't have as many events, but membership is a gold coin donation and it has a bunch of perks.

There's the Commerce, Environments and Biomedicine societies.

Commerce - I hear - don't really do as much as the other societies, but they're events are easily the classiest. Haven't heard of a single BBQ (I'm sure there are some), but I hear the boat parties and the Commerce Ball are much fancier than the ones run by any other society.
http://www.facebook.com/cssmelb?fref=ts

Environments (ENVI)
http://www.facebook.com/#!/envi.ess
Really know nothing at all about this one, sure they have all 'normal' events

Biomedicine
http://www.facebook.com/biomedbear.unimelb?fref=ts
Again, there are BBQs, Biomed Ball etc etc
Less events than the ones offered by Arts and Science societies though

There are a bunch of other smaller ones that are pretty good for socialising as well.
If you like beer, for example, there's this:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/More-Beer/277528742316442?fref=ts

If you like politics
http://www.facebook.com/groups/polintsoc/?fref=ts
They have 2 hour sessions each week where you sit in a circle and talk about a whole range of social and political issues, then they go to the Clyde for free food and drinks

BUT YEAH
If you were looking for places to socialise, thennnnn^^^^^^^^^^

If you're gonna do a ball do it this year because otherwise you'll just be a dick going to a ball full of jaffys.  Gotta do it in first year.

I remember there being a lot of non-first years at the science ball last year, and there were heaps at the Arts one as well. I really don't think it would matter what year you're in.

SoUP seemed to have more non-jaffys than jaffys as well.

Being honest, if you're relatively conservative coming outside of high-school (as many students at melbourne uni are), you'll probably want to start off with the Biomed society events and UMSU events. They're a whole bunch more tame than your e*trips, engineering society's prosh week and some of the ormond parties. Like for instance, a few years back, the eng society paid for a coffin and left it at the side of a lecture theatre and got two people to have sex in it during a lecture. About 10 minutes in, the lecturer realised there were two people in the coffin doing it, was hilarious.

Can I only select breadth subjects on one semester? like 4 breadths and no science subjects?

and is it possible to don't choose any subject at all in one semester?(instead do summer subjects)

Why would you look like a dick if you do it in your second or third year?

Okay maybe it was an overly strong comment expressing a personal opinion but it's just kind of a 'omg first year gotta do everything social at uni' kind of thing to do, in my eyes.  The whole process of securing the tickets/table, dressing up, etc etc is a first year kind of thing!  I'm not the only one who thinks this but you can feel free to disagree with me if you like going to balls past first year or whatever.

I just tend to be overly skeptical of Australian uni social events and a bit of a total snob, forgive me if I offended you because it wasn't intentional.

oh nah no offence taken, I was just curious. I understand your point entirely, and I felt the same way before starting uni this year and realising how fun all the events still were - for me at leasttt.
