Hey guys,

Sorry to derail the current topic of conversation but I just wanted to ask about UoM GPA calculations and I didn't think it warranted a new thread.

Can anyone shed any light on what sort of GPA an average of let's say 80 throughout my BCom would get me? How about an 85? My sem 1 average was 89.5 but I'm not so sure I'll be able to keep that up in my more difficult second and third year subjects haha.

Thanks!

Anyone else noticed anything less than savoury about the Intro Macro lecturer?

is it the Jay Chou he plays before lectures? ;)

or maybe the fact that he claimed all Chinese men sleep with teddy bears

His name is Graham and he is a little racist in his jokes. From what I can tell, most people agree that it's all in good fun.

Benevolent racism is still racism, even if its effect is more passive  :-\
My three college friends taking Intro Macro seem to find his jokes in poor taste, regardless of how bad they are.

i guess it all depends on how sensitive you are to the topic. I have a few international friends and they agree that theyre good at drawing attention and waking up the theatre.

There's no such thing as an actual GPA for the university. It's just a scale wanna-be medicine students use.

If you don't wanna go into medicine, the term GPA doesn't exist for you.

I want to go to law school subsequent to my BCom and I'd like to try for some in the US and they seem to use GPAs?

Well you'd need to see how your grades transfer to American grades and then use the relevant GPA system that the univesity you are applying to uses.

It's all good if it's once a lecture, but 5 of more directed at the same ethnic group in a mostly condescending fashion is just ridiculous and over the top. I haven't found it amusing and I know quite a few others that don't either. Of course no one admits it because of internalised passive tolerance towards racism.

Maybe 1/5 of them is funny, when he doesn't cross the line. Just hoping that he tones it down, it's coming across as a bit of a crusade at the moment...

Yet another inane question from me  :'(
How much detail am I expected to know regarding histones/nucleosomes and DNA packaging for BIOL10005?
Should I go and learn about H1, H2, H3 etc. and the linking of nucleosomes or just have a general appreciation for how DNA is packaged?
Please tell me it's the latter  :-*

Well you'll need to have a detailed understanding in biochem if you do it so may as well get ahead but I didn't need to know much about it when I took that subject, general appreciation was all good.

I PROMISE to stop asking questions after this one, but I'm having a minor obsessiveness-related crisis. Do the things in Dawn's recommended textbook readings come up in assessments or is it all derived from ILTs/pracs/lectures?
(I'm sorry to keep bothering you all like this.)
