Say if you fail a subject by just a few marks (e.g. 1-5 marks) in a exam, is it possible to go through the exam with the lecturer to see if any more marks can be added? I'm asking in terms of whether or not the lecturer has the power to do so.

This is for a maths subject btw. Also, I'm in my last semester.

It depends on what you need your average to be calculated for
+
You can ask for a remark or a conceded pass, but you're not going to be able to ask for extra marks for random things such as "proper integration formatting" afaik

(on a side note, I've spent so long in this library over the last 2 weeks that the librarian just brought me an umbrella and told me to give it back to her on Monday, because I forgot mine today. #nerdlyf)

Is there an average that goes on your transcript?

@Russ: Maybe say a calculation for a scholarship or a listing on the Dean's List? Just as an example, 'cos if you took six core subjects and two diploma subjects in one year, and needed to complete eight second-year subjects to be eligible, I'm not sure how exactly that works.
VCE: Chemistry | Biology (2011) | English (2011) | Environmental Science | Mathematical Methods CAS

2013-2015: BSc [Zoology] @ UoM | DLang [German - DISCONTINUED]
2016: GDSc [Botany] @ UoM
2017-2018: MSc [Biosciences - Zoology] @ UoM

Summer: BOTA30006

S1: BOTA20001 | EVSC20004 | BOTA30003 | BIOL90001

S2: GEOG20009 | BOTA30002 | BOTA30005 | EVSC20003 | NRMT90002

Subject and major reviews incoming :)

Ooh yeah this too.

What sort of average typically is required for the Dean's List? I'd imagine it varies per faculty.

Hmm, thanks. So you're saying that they couldn't amend the marks, or just that it would depend on the lecturer?

Who would remark the exam? It's a relatively small third year maths subject.

I think it's about 85 for science. My brother had an 88 average in first year and got in with me.

I'm saying that in my experience you are entitled to request your exam be remarked (significant change in marks is probably unlikely) or you can talk to the lecturer and try to get them to give you a pass if you were extremely close to the pass/fail threshold (might be able to sit a supp etc.). What I don't think you can do is try to convince your lecturer to give you extra marks based on things you did on your paper.

Is there an average that goes on your transcript?

Your transcript is a piece of paper that lists the subject name, the year/semester taken, the credit points it's worth and the mark gotten. There's no calculated average/GPA/class rank on there, that's for whoever you're giving it to to work out (hence why it varies depending on what you're applying for).

Does anyone know of any breadth subjects that are taught in the April mid-sem break? There are subjects taught in the September mid-sem break, but can't find any in April. Thanks! :-)

https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/faces/htdocs/user/search/AdvancedSearch.jsp

Hit 'Go' underneath Advanced Search. Under Course, Subject or Specialisation select 'Subjects'. Under Course Type select 'Undegraduate'.

Then hit search. This gives you a list of all the undergrad subjects. You can then order them by 'Study Period Commencement' and filter through like that.

From what I can see though, only https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2014/CUMC40007 is being taught intensively in April, and after the midsem break too.

What is everyone's thoughts on mid year graduation vs end of year graduation? End of year graduation is obviously the norm for most people, but what about those of you who have the option?
