It's advisable to wait for your grades for that subject to be published before criticising whoever's marking your work

Subject reviews should be based on more than what mark you got, no?

In fact, the MTeach subject in which I scored the lowest (74) was one of the most interesting subjects that I took; it was just the extremely unrealistic deadlines on assignments that made me (and others) perform suboptimally. On the other hand, my highest-scoring subject (100) did not hold my interest well.

Unfortunately, many of the subject reviews that I have read here seem to be blindsided by the mark that they got. It is hard to be truly objective, I know, but it is something to think about.

Just got an email that Prof Brian Oldenburg is relocating from Monash to UoM (even though Monash is sort of keeping him as an Adjunct Prof at the DEPM). To anyone working in Medicine or Epidemiology, you guys are getting an incredible staff member! I had the privilege of having Prof Oldenburg as a guest lecturer for one of my biomed units on the topic of the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases, and he was absolutely superb.

This is why nobody really takes those meetings seriously fyi,
Yeah, but free food so worth it (Y)

It's almost as though things are up for individual interpretation :P I wouldn't worry too much about just being honest in your reviews - the academic staff should be held accountable for their performance given how much the university is being paid. It's advisable to wait for your grades for that subject to be published before criticising whoever's marking your work but it's not like they're going to hold a grudge against you for giving them a bad review and go out of their way to mark you down in future subjects you might have with them. Even if they did you could contest it.
That's true. She wasn't the worst lecturer in the world for some people. I found her difficult, but I know others didn't, which is exactly why I keep away from getting stuck in because people have different learning styles and whatnot!

I think he means that you should wait for your mark in case someone sees it and then marks you more harshly.

That's not what I meant at all. I couldn't care less what mark someone got when I'm reading a review - what I said was that you should wait for your mark to be released and finalised before writing your review so that you eliminate the risk of whoever's assessing your work seeing your review, taking offence and marking you down as a result. I thought I made that quite clear in my original post, especially if you'd read and quoted the entire sentence, as opposed to only half of it.

Having been cataloguing and indexing the various Subject Reviews and Ratings threads, I can easily say that many - if not most - of the reviews are posted prior to the release of results.

I made 3 reviews for this semester prior to the release of marks sometime after the exams.
I did not change anything other than the mark TBA slot

If anything was to be biased it was during the subject itself, whether the reviewer had different interests or was treated by tutors differently than others

Um but I was kind of hoping the first time the Vice Chancellor saw my name, it would be in relation to the Dean's List or an APA. Not the response "because I would choose Monash over my dead body" when asked why I chose to  study at The University of Melbourne.

HEY, VICE CHANCELLOR, IF YOU SEE THIS POST I CHOSE TO STUDY AT YOUR FINE INSTITUTION BECAUSE OF ITS EXCELLENT TEACHING STANDARDS, STRONG INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE, GREAT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES nope.

Two things:

1) Is anyone here doing a Chemical Systems major? I just have a quick question for you.

2) People doing concurrent diplomas, do you know if it's possible to commence PG studies whilst still finishing off your Diploma subjects?  Or do you have to finish both your UG and the Diploma before commencing PG studies?

I feel bad because I'm asking a question while not answering hobittle's, but did anyone else get the New Colombo Plan email? I'm really really tempted but I don't think I can go without sacrificing really key subjects I was planning to do in any semester ;_;
