If there is funding, you can keep working longer than a semester. I was in UROP from S2 of second year until I finished my BSc, then stayed on as a research assistant in the same group for another 2.5 years.

This. This is who I need to be. I really want to make it this year.

Hancock is in his final year so he can only do UROP through to December.
Hancock if you apply on a whim as a MechEngineer and get in first time I'm afraid I'm not a big enough person for us to ever be friends. :-P

Is anyone contemplating doing Critical Thinking With Data? I could do a subject review of it alongside Painting Techniques.

Painting Techniques has helped me recognize that I've chosen the correct degree (BSc) and eventual career path. I was always lacking in math/science and very strong in humanities/arts - the GAT showed around 45 for written communication/humanities/arts/social sciences, and 33 for science/tech/math aha. While this class has been fantastic, there is no way I could paint and draw consistently for more than a few weeks, let alone the rest of my life. The breadth track confirmed for me that you should always do what you love, even when it becomes difficult.

If anyone's interested in debating/Model UN/IR/health please check these clubs and societies things out: https://www.facebook.com/AusWHO2014    https://www.facebook.com/MUHealthInitiative?ref=hl

Awesome. Initially I wasn't going to, but I think I might actually pay $70 to argue with people

When you apply for grants does being awarded one exclude you from receiving other scholarships/grants in the same year/time period?  Or can you just accumulate an unlimited number, theoretically?

i imagine you can get as many as you're eligible for, should they decided to award you the grant.

does anyone know what they mean by this?

Oh I thought this would be like a winter break sort of job. Ah well, I've got Uni 2 days a week in Sem 2 so I'll apply and see what happens.

Yeah, you usually do about 7 hours a week and you're not meant to do more than that.  I was kind of coerced into doing more than that but I imagine for something in engineering it would be easier to do less if you had less wet lab work - it's just when you set up and have to follow through with experiments that it becomes tricky.  I was only taking three subjects when I did UROP so it kind of like, filled in my 'fourth subject' contact hours.  It starts in winter break (usually a couple of weeks before sem 2) and then finishes up after exams but as I said it doesn't really conflict with uni work.  Supervisors are very understanding when you have stuff due and you can take weeks rather than days off, and if your grades drop below your average pre-UROP you are encouraged to give up your placement in favour of keeping a good GPA.  The pay is really good also (30p/h).

Hey guys,

just curious here, IF I failed a subject in first year uni and and repeating it in 2nd year, how would they calculate it in my GPA?

PS (not saying I failed or anything, just curious) :)

Thanks!
