you only need to do esd2 and physics 2 for the electrical/mechanical majors
*not esd1/physics1

also i know who you're talking about that guy in the engineering centre is such a noob. to be eligible for the masters all you have to do is do the 4 level 3 major subjects and if you look at each of the prereques for those they dont require physic 1/esd1

The guy that did the lecture in AAD was misinformed then because he said ESD1 is required.
Would I be at a disadvantage if I don't do physics 1 considering that most mechanics subjects are based on physics 1?
Also, how much harder is accelerated maths than calculus 1 and 2? On average if someone gets 90 in calculus 2/linear algebra, how much would they get in accelerated maths?
Thank you for your help.

Yeah, the archaeology/geomatics guy. I attended the science lectures, medicine, accounting, actuary, economics and engineering and engineering was the worst because of him. Does he teach any classes other than geomatics?

i haven't seen him lecture for anything so i can't say. Regarding the accelerated maths thing i haven't done it so I'm not sure and the mechanics section in esd2 coversa lot of things you will do in eng mechanics so i do not think not doing physics 1 is a disadvantage but if u have free spots then sure why not

Did you make a mistake or are you saying that ESD2 isn't required? Because if there is away I can do the mechanical engineering major without doing ESD 1&2 then that would solve all my problems  ;D

also getting a 90 in calculus 2 is hard already (its not like high school) why put yourself through the trouble of accel maths lol

oh whoops yea i meant esd1 not esd2.. esd2 is required and its a really good subject gives you a true insight on what engineering will be like..after you do it you'd definitely have made your decision on whether you want to pursue the health or engineering path

I don't like how there are so many prerequisites and restrictions. The breadth system is great but I think it should be an option, we shouldn't be forced to have breadth subjects. The many rules kind of defeat the purpose of the "flexibility" of the Melbourne Model. I don't like how they set up rules like that, it is like limiting. Setting up limiting rules leads to bad consequences:

LOL yea I'm like you..hate breaths..which is why I'm leaving all my breaths till the end of my science degree. If you want easy and fun breaths do african drumming and south american drumming one..very fun..i plan to do them whilst working and saving up for my holiday ;)

I might actually do that or at least not do breadths in first year because I am still not decided what I want to do so I need to do at least biology 1 and 2, chemistry 1 and 2, calculus 2, linear algebra, physics 2 and ESD 2 which will take the whole year. I still can do chem 2, esd 2 or linear algebra in the summer and replace it with a breadth (intro micro) but I'm sitting the GAMSAT in March next year and I think it is a bad idea to do summer subjects (except may be chemistry).

yea summer subjects take up most of your time..best study for the gamsat instead if you're real keen on med/dentistry.

If you're planning on doing mech engineering, then doing physics 1 would be wise. Accelerated maths is basically calculus 2, linear algebra and real analysis fit into 2 subjects. If you can get 90 in those then you should be fine.

Just saying that Uni isn't like High School. Anything above a 70 is a great score and estimating a score of 90 before your first semester of uni is a little silly. If you're doing Mech, do Physics 1 and ESD2. You should really be doing Physics 2 as well but that's your call. Remember that if you don't major in an Engineering System, you need to have done 25 points (2 subjects) of first year physics to get into the Mechanical Masters stream.

Is it at all possible to fit both the mechanical engineering systems major and the medicine/dentistry prerequisites?
I have to do ESD 1&2, physics 1&2, calculus and linear algebra for mech engineering and I have to do chem 1&2 and biology 1&2 for medicine/dentistry so I really don't think it is possible.
I looked at all the mech eng level 2 and 3 subjects and none of them require ESD 1 or Physics 1. ESD 2 and physics 2 don't require those either so I thought about doing only ESD 2 and physics 2 only but yesterday the engineering guy told me that if I don't do ESD 1 and physics 1 I can't get into the master since ESD 1 is equivalent to eng communication and physics 1 is a prerequisite for the mech and electrical masters.
It seems like I can only fit chemical systems, civil systems or bioeng systems which I am currently not really interested in.
For now I chose to do BIOL10004, CHEM10003, MAST10006 and PHYC10001, hopefully after first semester I can decide what I want to do.
I am thinking about doing accelerated maths instead of calculus 2 but I'm but I'm not too confident with maths after doing so terribly on the 4U test.

In short.
Yes you can fit it all in.
Don't do ESD1 or Physics 1.
You should be able to make it fit.
Don't do Accellerated Maths if you aren't maths confident. Calculus 2 + Linear Algebra is hard enough.
What the "engineering guy" told you is bullshite and incorrect.
