How much does tram cost from Flinders Street Station to UoM? I've never used trams before btw.
Also, can I take my bike with my on the train or is that not allowed? I thought it would be easy to walk from Flinders Street Station to UoM but it takes about 20 minutes or so to get to the university.

The tram won't cost you any extra. YOu only get charged for travelling in or between zones. Doesn't matter what travelling you do.

user2357; just letting you know that UoM is closest to the Melbourne Central train station rather than Flinders St, and if you catch a train that passes through North Melbourne there is a very very frequent bus that takes you right to the university campus.  Just in case you weren't aware!

You can take your bike on the train but in peak hour be considerate of others - on a packed train it's not always ideal to bring a bike and people can get maaaad.

Thank you very much for letting me know, I didn't know that. I think the train does pass through North Melbourne train station before going to Flenders St so I will get off there next time. I haven't yet seen a train from my area that goes to Melbourne Central though.
I was thinking about taking the bike with me once then leaving it there close to the station so that I don't have to take it with me everyday but I don't know if that is a good idea.

I wouldn't leave my bike unattended for long periods even with a secure lock - especially if not on campus!  May I ask what train line you are on?  Most lines do end up going to Melbourne Central, but usually go to Flinders St first.  So your train would wait at Flinders St for a while and then proceed to go through the city loop (which includes Melbourne Central).  However, waiting for it to leave Flinders St can be annoying if that's the case.  As someone that didn't catch a line going through North Melbourne during undergrad I always used to curse people who could get the bus because it was so much faster than waiting for a tram!  Trams can actually take just as long as walking especially during peak hour.

http://ptv.vic.gov.au/route/view/1657  <-- there's the bus if you would like to take a look, it doesn't cost extra either (should also use Myki).

I catch the train at Watergardens station.
The train is always empty there and gets filled the closer it gets to the city so I thought it would be possible to take the bike with me.
I went by car to AAD because it was my first time going to UoM in the morning and it took me 1 hour to get there (takes me 25 minutes in normal traffic) and I couldn't find parking lol.

What is this sorcery?

Someone on FB posted a status saying his friend had made this site, it's beta atm I'm pretty sure!  I wouldn't trust everything it says, still confirm with the handbook, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly accurate?

Yeah definitely don't drive to uni in the morning from the west imo ;--;
And parking is expensive!!  Your line runs through North Melbourne so give that a try during O-Week.  I think during peak the bus leaves every 3 mins.  If looking to get exercise though the train/bike combo is a good option, just keep your bike nearby!

Mine used to stop at North, and now doesn't. Does it get any worse than that? :(
For those it does stop for, it's perfect and by far the easiest way to get to Uni.

I had a look at Spanish and that was completely whack, but everything else seemed fine. It's great, great find :D

It is awesome. Big thanks to that dude on facebook and to you for finding it.

Thank you very much for your help. I will experiment with North Melbourne station and the bus and also the bike during O-week. If I find bike cages at train stations then I might leave the bike there to have some fun biking every morning.
I thought the rent bikes were a good option but they are too slow and look ugly. Governments never do things right...
