I got 27 out of 40 in micro  mis-sem exam :(
I have no chance of getting into dentistry...

Don't say that man, just keep pushing on if you get results you aren't so happy with. (As corny as it sounds).
MIIM is a bloody difficult subject but if you work hard you can still H1 it or get close at least!
Besides, you don't need to H1 everything to get into dent anyway ;)

Hi! I have to do a dissection tomorrow, in which I won't have any gloves to do it with.

Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't bother me. But, I have a wound on my index finger that's pretty big. So, do you think the demonstrators will mind if I do the dissection without any gloves, even though I'll be wearing a Band-Aid?

Sorry if this sounds stupid; I have a tendency to worry over things like this haaha  :P

They don't care if you don't have gloves. But if I was worried like you, I'd bring my own pair of gloves.

When I was in first year and had chem and bio pracs, I would take extra gloves from the chem department, haha.

Also, sometimes in bio pracs there would be amazing people who bring a box of gloves.. so you could look for one of those people.

So I'd need to have at least 37.5 points left?

And yeah I considered the second part, but graduating later won't really matter under my current post-grad plan.

Thanks!

I think you don't need a full semester left. I think they just ADVISE you to have a semester left if you want to graduate ON TIME. I have friends who had one or two subjects left, and they are currently completing their last subject after going on exchange.

Really?  I was always under the impression you had to have at least one semester left.  You need to study at least 37.5 points (definitely true).  You can't take extra subjects overseas because you pay normal fees here.  Having one subject left when you get back would be fulfilling the requirement, so long as you took the equivalent of three Melbourne subjects overseas (keep in mind that may be more or less than three there).

I just had my rat dissection today and my rat had an abnormality in which the smell was even more intense than usual and the kidneys were extremely enlarged. The supervisors all seemed to be talking about it but they didn't tell me anything and got me to just use one of the supervisor's mice. I'm a bit concerned - I know the rats are supposed to be disease-free and all but what if mine wasn't? I don't want to get infected or anything. :S

Were you wearing gloves, goggles and a lab coat?

If yes, you'll be fine.

If no, you'll also be fine, because academics like to talk about weird shit all the time.

Haha I know I'm probably worrying too much about it, but it was a bit unnerving nonetheless being my first dissection. :P

Haha, I'd be more jealous of you than anything - dissections are much better when something is wrong with the organism because you can devote some thought to what that might be from an anatomical, histological and maybe a pathological standpoint. Going solely one what you'd described, I'd imagine that there was some bacterial infection of one of the regions of the kidneys or a connected tissue (which causes the inflammation). The smell was probably due to tissue necrosis, maybe expedited as a result of the infection.

Alternatively, it could be something completely different because I haven't seen it first-hand.

See, it's fun!
