In your successful Year 12 VCE year, how did you cope with adversity and continue to strive for top marks? There are some days where I feel like I'll get a negative ATAR and others where I think I have a slight chance of getting over 80. I am aware that you need a +85 ATAR to be considered as a bare minimum for the Arts Course, and I am striving very very very hard to get this (e.g. no social media, facebook) however I do admit that I use YouTube sometimes for various subjects and just general searching and go to the local libraries almost everyday. What sacrifices did you have to make, to ensure that you had the best chance of a really good ATAR for Melbourne?
I'm a fairly even-keeled sort of guy, and I barely even thought about my ATAR throughout year 12. Have a goal for sure, but make sure it's within the bounds of reality and don't let it take over your life.
Unless you require a high amount of discipline and routine, you shouldn't have to cut out things like social media and youtube. Year 12 is far more of a marathon than a sprint, and you sometimes need distractions and other interests to maintain your sanity. If you try to be work, work, work the entire year, you might find you're burnt out by the time exams come around. I don't know about you, but I find I'm less productive when I have a singular focus over a long period (I don't really use it, but google "pomodoro technique" to see what I'm talking about).
I think the one thing I have really improved since year 12 that I'd recommended to basically all students is
organisation. It seems obvious enough, but if you take some time to make an ad hoc to-do list (nothing overly formal – and especially not a pre-determined timetable – just a list of things you need to complete by a certain date) it gives you an understanding what you need to do and by when, and can prevent you from time wasting and faffing about.
I definitely wouldn't say I made any "sacrifices" specifically to get into Melbourne. I understood my capacity and aptitudes and worked accordingly. It's different for everyone, but don't get too down on yourself when you have some struggles.
Also could anyone just recommend me apart from Melbourne, some Arts-like courses available. I am aware of quite a few, but I thought if anyone has the time to recommend me some (even if they are ones I already know) than that would be handy as assurance and confirmation.
Literally every university has a Bachelor of Arts course that is the basic equivalent to Melbourne. Arts is a really vague (or, to be more accurate, broad) field, and what the Melbourne Model condenses into essentially one degree with a host of majors and sub-majors can be found elsewhere in a bevy of other degrees. Deakin, La Trobe, RMIT, Swinburne etc. They're all good institutions that cater for a huge range of disciplines, despite the fact that they may not carry the prestige of Melbourne.
Good luck, and be cool... like Fonzie.
