Dammit!

Thanks for the help anyway guys, I'm just looking thru a couple of subjects to see what their prerequisite are.

Btw, what do people generally do if a subject such as CEDB30003 Developmental Biology has a small quota, and you don't get in.

Picking another subject obviously, but what if you don't have the prereq's for the other subjects, or if you do and you don't enjoy that subject ?

Can someone please enlighten me? :)
I applied for Mathematics as an extension program subject in year 12 (next year) but I have a few questions, one being, does maths have an increment towards my ATAR or is it one of the subjects that doesnt? Another question is why are the locations of the classes not in the University but rather at other schools?

Thanks :)

check this out: http://futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/info/school-students/extension-program/atar-increment.
And one of my friends did it, I think it's at the University, but he said sometimes it was really late.

What's the deal for a subject with a co-requisite? Do you have to do the co-requisite in the same semester or is a semester before okay? For any commerce people who know, I'm referring to ACCT30004 (and ACCT30001). Cheers

http://ask.unimelb.edu.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/2868/~/prerequisites-and-corequisites So apparently it all depends on the subjects. However for your case I'm sure you can do ACCT30001 before ACCT30004, you don't necessarily have to do them concurrently. Otherwise this example study plan is pretty wrong http://bcom.unimelb.edu.au/majors/accounting_major.

You can definitely do FAT before Audit. They're not strict about co-requisites.

Manglesdorf is excellent, but she is also kind of anti-lecture recording, which is bad.

Has anyone completed NEUR30004 sensation, movement and complex functions without completing the prereq NEUR30003 principles of neuroscience? Would it be manageable doing NEUR30004 without NEUR30003? Thanks!!

On a related note, what are people's thoughts on Neuroscience as a major? I've heard that majoring in Human Structure and Function is a more rational choice for those who want to do MD afterwards, but do those who major in HSF actually get that big of an advantage once MD starts? I am currently tossing up between Neuroscience and HSF. Thanks! :)

You'll hear in 2nd year Biomed that the HSF major isn't the only rational preparation for the MD. According to a few lecturers it's the Pharmaoclogy/Micro/Immuno majors that also help just as much as HSF, perhaps even more. Roy-Robins Browne (who lectures in MCB) is the coordinator for the foundational biomedical subject in MD1 and he said that students who did these majors did better for that subject at least. Not sure if he was just trying to encourage us to do the Micro/Immuno majors though...

If it's a prerequisite, i'm pretty sure you need to have completed it to do NEUR30004. NEUR30004 expands on many of the topics in NEUR30003. NEUR30003 really provides you with the foundations to do NEUR30004 imo.

On a related note, what are people's thoughts on Neuroscience as a major? Not sure which is the best preparation for the MD, but I think Neuroscience is easier to do well in.

HSF is not a great major for the MD, since after first year it's rarely relevant. Micro/immuno, pathology and pharmacology are all definitely better for medicine in general. Neuroscience is fine, but isn't necessarily the neurology you'll need to learn in the MD. It's also a very love it or hate it area, so few people pick it just for that. Physiology isn't so great; after you understand the concept of homeostasis, the only stuff that's ever really important is the cardiovascular stuff, which is taught in 1st year.

That's just based off my experience, but I also think picking a major just for MD preparation is bad. Pick the one you enjoy, the first year of the MD will have so much stuff that you'll be lost and bewildered no matter what.
