You just have to do at least two non-math subjects, you do pretty much anything else with the other elective. I'm taking graph theory with a few friends :)

Oh didn't know you could do that with the electives, I thought they were all non-maths.

Graph theory sounds really interesting, good luck with it and with 3rd year! :)

Do people normally enter the work-force with a job related to their major right away after getting a B.Biomed/B.Science degree?

From what I gather here on AN and from speaking to people in Science, generally a Bachelor's degree in Biomed or Science at unimelb isn't enough to get a job. Many go on to postgraduate study after completing their Bachelor's.

At Melbourne, it's far more common to do graduate degree from science/biomed because as notveryasian said, it often isn't enough to get a job!

From what i've heard, it usually doesn't. Would need post-grad study (i.e. masters, PhD, diploma etc...) as the two other posts above me suggest.

It's enough to get you a job if all you're after is employment, but you won't be climbing the science ladder without other qualifications

A couple of friends found a job after graduation, but they've got good grades (admittedly no experience in science,) and good references. The jobs mainly involve working in pathology/genetics commercial labs, not as researchers. In short, it's procedural, somewhat repetitive work.

So yes, it's possible, but to get 'good' jobs will require more study.

I've spent most of today "finding" *cough* my textbooks and have surprisingly had much success. There's only one I haven't been able to "find" *cough* - General Anatomy: Principles and Applications. Anyone who did ANAT20006 or BIOM20002, were you able to "find" *cough* this textbook or was it not available?

It exists. But it's also a terrible text book so don't bother.

Booooooo it's a superb introductory anatomy text for its size. Plus the lead author is one of the greatest lecturers I've ever had, Norm Eizenberg is a hero

Stick, if you can't *find* a copy then there are relatively cheap (for a uni textbook, anyway) first-hand copies available. I bought from here.

I may have over exaggerated its badness. It was useful. But mainly because the introductory section of our anatomy course at UniMelb was written around the book itself. That said, the principles it gives can be found at the start of most decent anatomy books anyway.

Once again, thanks so much. I still wasn't able to find it. Probably indicative of my horrible searching skills (that being said, I found everything else within half an hour :S).

Just out of curiosity, if you do a Master's degree after completing a Bachelor's degree degree, do employers still look at your undergraduate transcript or do they look exclusively at your postgraduate transcript? Thanks! :)

Depends on the job and the degrees. There's not an official way that employers assess applicants, some don't even care about your transcript.
