Yea our orientation day was yesterday. We've only received a hard copy and the pdf hasn't been uploaded on the LMS yet.

The timetable is pretty hectic and confusing. One of the staff liked to joke that you'll pass dentistry if you can understand first year timetable lol.

I can send you it when it becomes uploaded if you want.

Ah I see. I'm not considering Dentistry but curiosity is nagging me, so that would be great! :)

Hey guys, if I wanted to go into the Master of Education(maths), what maths subjects should I take in 1st and second year? the requirement is a sub-major in mathematics and stats. Thanks :)

It depends on what area of specialization you are wanting to do. They are available here.

At a bare minimum for first year it will be Calc 1, Calc 2 and Linear Algebra. You may not need to do Calc 1 if you score decently in specialist.
If you do very well in Specialist then it will be Accelerated Mathematics 1 and 2, which actually frees up your degree.

This is the 2012 DD1 timetable posted by Tomw2 on Paging Dr. I suppose the contact hours are relatively similar but possibly fewer 8am starts (thank god).

Does anyone know if there's some kind of spray repellant you can use that stops Socialist Alliance members from approaching you? I got accosted like 5 times on campus today, all I wanted was to get some food :(

Welcome to Melbourne University.

They're particularly busy trying to recruit in O-Week/when new students are around. During semester they really only hang around out the front of the libraries (where you can just walk past.)

You could wear one of these. It may not act as a repellant, but they may bash you instead.

Holy crap. That looks hella hectic. Looks like you can't schedule any free days; bummer

Just avoid Bailleu library...they always hang around there during semester. Go out of your way to avoid them (ie if you're walking from the med building, walk up the hills to South Lawn or go through the carpark underneath).

But if they do get in your face nothing works better than a cold-hearted, emotionless stare. Straight in the eyes. Unsettle the hell out of them.

If I did the mainstream pathway in Biomedicine does that close off the option to major in bioengineering later on? I'm still undecided between bioengineering or micro/immuno, so would it be best if i did the bioengineering pathway so that by 2nd year i could still have the choice between either?

Yes, it will close it off. You won't be able to do the pre-reqs required for Bioengineering.

And yeah, leave your options open I guess.

Hahaha! One person even came to our lecture room and before the lecture gave us a little speech on why we should join LOL!

Anybody going to that O camp?? I probably won't but looking forward to o week.

What is OWeek like? Like, some of my friends are saying its useless because you are most likely never going to see the people you meet in Oweek again, considering they might be from a different course or could even do different subjects.

Hey does anyone have a UniMelb varsity jacket or hoodie jumper they want to sell? I'm heading overseas and want to rep properly! PM plz

EDIT: Apparently you can buy them now for 110 bucks at the UniStore. I'd rather look for a second hand one still.

To anyone here who has done ANAT30007 (Human Locomotor Systems), are there any topics from 2nd year anatomy that I should go over before the semester starts? I feel like I've forgotten most of the stuff from last year already! Particularly the embryology type stuff (will this be important this semester?)

Thanks in advance :)
