You'll be fine! Plenty of people who've done Biol do well too, don't worry! :p

I expected it to be like Chem. Thought if I were going to fail something, Biochem would be it. Never have I been happier to be wrong.

There wasn't much 'this is why the reaction takes place' in biochem; it was more 'enzymes do this and you need to remember this' or 'this is what happens in DNA replication; learn it'.

The concepts are good. It's just annoying when you have to remember all these enzyme names and pathways with almost arbitrary names.

Don't disagree with you there. Learning pathways can be particularly annoying, especially if there's nothing new or exciting about how they work. Metabolism, for example, is shocking.

Am I allowed to do language subjects straight from Chinese 1 to 6 for breadth or do I need to have some cultural subjects in it as well?

No culture requirements. Go nuts :)

Metabolism is fun for me when I try and work out the mechanism of every step, but other than that, it's pretty dry when it comes to memorising where/when alphaketoglutarate is formed, for instance.

I was wondering if anyone knows how long the tour goes for with your host next Tuesday for O-Week, since there are other lectures to get to as well that day.

Thanks

So I think I may have done something silly...

As those who have done MCB would know, the CALs are replaced with two 90 minute practicals for the microbiology and immunology component of the subject, which are held at WEHI. Most people seemed to have opted for a 9am practical, leaving a gap in their timetable, while I went for the 10:30am practical so that I didn't have a gap. However, upon closer inspection of my timetable, my next lecture at 12pm is MCB in the Asia Centre. I'm not confident I'll make it to that lecture in time, or that the practical class will finish early, so should I try to change into the 9am practical class? Also, if I try to change and there isn't a spot available, is there any chance I'll lose my current spot? Thanks. :)

Aren't they held at Peter Doherty, not WEHI?

Don't worry, you'll finish the practicals early. From what I remember, we did (although I may be confusing it with MIIM20002). And if you are late, it's only to like 2 lectures out of 72 lol.

Does anyone know what O-week parties are being held, apart from the M-ASS one? I'm working Thursday until 9pm  :'(

Yes, you're right lol. Alright then, I guess it's better to be a little bit late than to have an unproductive 90 minute gap, especially if the pracs do finish early.

EDIT: Well at least it's on the right side of Royal Parade now; I'm more confident I'll make it in time to the class. Thanks for your help. :)

Does it  matter what version of textbooks we buy?
I'm trying to buy the blackman chemistry2e but there are so many different versions (wiley plus card, wiley plus 4 card, with molecular model kit...)
and also if there is a new edition out  (biology an aus focus) is it better to buy the new one?
