Micro/Immuno involves a fair bit of everything actually. You need to understand genetics to understand how lymphocytes develop. You need a little bit of biochemistry to understand how antibodies, receptors or antigens work. There is also a large amount of cell biology as you dwell into how bacteria and viruses cause disease, as well as how your own immune cells respond. Lots of molecules, factors and proteins to be memorised. And then there's also a big link with pathology too with autoimmune diseases.

With Roy, make sure you write down the point of his stories - don't dismiss them.

Jack of all trades, but master of none :p

Cell biol in MCB is definitely a drag. All the basics are pretty boring, but it does certainly look like it improves in third year seeing what some other people are doing at the moment. Genetics is by far the best unit in MCB though imo

Yeah we got feedback. He posted the test back up with the right answers and why the right ones were right. Never had that done for any other subject before. Gotta love Charles for that...and everything else he does for us (but not for writing MST questions ahaha).

Highest mark was 28, I think 6 students got it.

Edit: Yeah, comparing the MST to the 2014 sem 2 and to the 2013 Sem 1 & Sem 2 MSTs, this one had an increase in difficulty that was tenfold (no joke).

Haha anyways, hopefully everyone will do well in the next MST and the final exam now that we know what to expect.

I liked cell biology, De Iongh was a pretty solid lecturer and top bloke too. Didn't like it enough to major in it during this timeline, perhaps in an alternate timeline.

Pathology was scarring... (great pun there)

The combination of end of semester exhaustion and rushed/crammed lectures ruled out path.

Funding cuts mean they can't provide it for their students any more ;)

If any of you health science/medicine types would like a deal on textbooks from elsevierhealth.com.au, send me a message. At least 25% off, maybe more.

Three lectures in and it's still looking good. ;)

Man, I learnt a very important lesson today about sleep. I used to be very disciplined about it, making sure I got 8-9 hours every night. This year I've been a bit more lenient, hovering around 6-7. For some reason, I got in one of my stubborn moods last night and decided I wouldn't go to bed until I got all my work done, so I only got 5 hours of sleep. I felt so unwell today though - nausea, dizziness and this super heavy head that made me feel like I was going to fall down and pass out at any minute. I generally don't drink coffee but had one today given the circumstances, and in the end it's only made me worse because coffee gives me stomach pain and I crash harder once the caffeine has worn off. Seriously, at one point during one of my lectures today I felt that sick I was close to walking out and attempting to go home. Just had a 2 1/2 hour nap and only now am I feeling better.

Moral of the story: Get your 8 hours sleep, even if you think it means you're putting yourself behind. I'm more behind now than I would've been if I had just gone to sleep when I should have last night!

Been a while since I've been on AN :O

I thought I'd return seeing as I was seated behind a fellow AN'er in our ARA lecture (zzzzz) today. Amidst his poker playing, reading the Vince Gilligan AMA on reddit and completing the weekly accounting test I saw him browse AN and was like fuarrkkkk I remember him from last year in year 12.

So..hey spectroscopy  ???

Hahah yeah I find this lady goes through the readings just at a slower rate. Not sure why I bother going to the lectures at all :P
I definitely did not expect for you to open AN and for your name to read spectroscopy, I mustve just had like a pre-conceived idea of what you looked like from reading your posts last year >.>

Now that I know its you I'll say hi, cause I swear I see you everywhere.

I'm too afraid to go on AN during lectures precisely because of this stalking potential.

Tsk tsk, who reddits during a lecture? Disrespect. ಠ_ಠ
