Bacteriology? A mate showed me those notes... you guys got fucked hard...

Yeah, a lot of the slides weren't in order and there were also some new ones in the actual lecture. It's not hard stuff, but genomics is just really dry and boring.

WTF at today's GENE20001 problem solving class. This just pisses me off...

Thanks to everyone in the GENE20001 tute this morning who arrived late and didn't stop talking. I really appreciate your effort to selfishly take away from others' learning opportunities.

I have no idea what to do. All the other problem solving classes clash with my other subjects and I wouldn't want to squeeze in anyway because I'm sure others are probably intending to do that. I've sent him an email but I doubt there's much that can be done. >_<

What happened? Did the lecturer storm out of the class? Holy shit.

If possible, just go to the problem solving classes that clash with your other lectures. At least the lectures are recorded.

Yeah, third time our Biomed cohort has been responsible for something like this. >_< I'm actually quite surprised as to how upset this has made me. In the past few weeks I've found it difficult to feel positive in general, but particularly about my studies in the face of such overwhelming content (I'm looking at you, BIOM20001). This week I thought I was starting to find my rhythm again, but now I have to contend with potentially being at a disadvantage. It's just that I really didn't need this right now.

And it's such a shame that it had to happen today, because Lorena Brown seriously has to be the nicest lecturer I've ever had. Move over, Mary Familari and Dawn Gleeson, I have a new favourite lecturer. The microbiology and immunology department are doing a great job at winning me over towards doing their major.

I really don't want my other subjects to suffer as a result of today's blunder, so I've asked a bunch of different people to take photos of their notes from their classes tomorrow and if one person has missed something, hopefully another has not. I've also got two of my friends going to a class tomorrow as well. If I'm still stuck, I guess I can go see him one-on-one for consultation. Hopefully it works out. :/

It'd be pretty hard to appreciate all the concepts in that lecture though. I mean, the content you went over there was 6 lectures in BCMB30002 (although ours is going pretty slowly).

Yes, that guy. We've gotten on the bad side of plenty of good staff members. For example your cohort speaks so highly of Robb de Iongh - I never got to see that side of him because he was always so cross about the noise at the start of every lesson. One thing which I just hate is the collective suffering from the bad behaviour of a few (in all honesty, it's about 25% of the cohort or class that's generally responsible). I hated it back in high school, where the staff took this approach 100% of the time, and I thought that I was done with it by the time I got to university. Obviously not. :(

I can appreciate that sometimes people are gonna be a little bit chatty and that's probably forgivable, but that sounds really terrible.
Steve (we called him Max though) was genuinely fantastic at those tutes so that's really sad to hear he's been driven to walking. Also sad that you missed the RDI magic; he's seriously a fantastic guy too.

That's the thing: he is a great tutor. It's a shame that there's always that minority that just have to spoil it for everyone else.

Oh god, I can only imagine what sitting through 6 lectures of genomics would be like. We obviously would've gone in less detail because  the tl;dr for our lecture was just "computers are smart and do everything for us".

Yeah, third time our Biomed cohort has been responsible for something like this. >_< I'm actually quite surprised as to how upset this has made me. I don't understand why people feel the need to be so disruptive in lectures. Why even go if you're just wasting an hour not paying attention in class, and then wasting even more time later trying to catch up...

Lorena easily takes the cake as the sweetest talker. She legit made our whole cohort "nawwwh" in unison. Hopefully she doesn't get too annoyed with the more disruptive clique of your year level.

I always found Steven (the genetics tutor) a cool guy, I think he'll be more than understanding if you went to consult him. You guys are on population genetics though right? If you are, you're not missing out on much because the questions on it are really simple and you can just rely on the lecture slides.

Well Steve just sent me an email saying he's "considering ways" to ensure those who wanted to learn today are not disadvantaged by the loss of the class. I have no idea how this can happen - I can only predict an optional make-up class *maybe* being run, in addition to getting a stern telling off from Alex to try and scare the shit out of us. Maybe it will last a week if we're lucky.

As much as you or I would like to see something being done, I was just thinking about what could be done to remedy the whole situation? Short of stopping people from going (which is not in anyone's best interest at the end of the day), I don't think there's much that can be done.
