All the lecturers in Principles of Immuno are top-notch. Seriously. You'll love it.

For some reason I've found Immuno easier than Micro in 3rd year since it's based more on understanding (still involes some rote but less) whereas in Bacterio it's the other way around.

This is where I chime in and say that the exam timetable for first year science sucks.

As if most people aren't doing biology and chemistry, so who thought it would be a good idea to make the exams at 8:30am and 5:15pm ON THE SAME DAY???  Add in 1.5-2hrs travelling each way and wanting to arrive early.... you could say I'm pissed off.

wtf

I know some of my friends are complaining that Biological Psychology and Molecular and Cellular Biomedicine got put on the same day, which is also a fairly common combination.

You'd think they'd communicate about these sorts of things. Sometimes I wonder.

Exactly how well does Phys For Biomed prepare you for the GAMSAT? A lot of people say it doesn't do a very good job at it but I feel like for someone who hasn't done physics since Year 9, it might be worth doing so that I can get my head wrapped around some Physics concepts and get my feet off the ground.

I also don't know if I should do Maths for Biomed or EDDA next semester. I've read all the reviews here and I still haven't come to a conclusion. It kinda sounds like some of them are better taught in Semester 2 than Sem1 which I hope will be true for this year, but atm I'm leaning towards Maths For Biomed

There have been plenty of instances where this kind of thing has occured. People doing structured courses can get pretty shit exam timetables. As a result I believe that doing a bunch of random subjects gives you the best chance of getting a good timetable.  :P

I disagree
I've done a random bunch of subjects in my last three semesters and I've always had two exams on the same day. Each semester.

Aren't you forced to do all of them? Or has that changed?

Pretty sure you need to do either Physics 2 or Physics for Biomed. It was ok preparation for the GAMSAT I think, but I learnt more off Khan Academy, Brightstorm and Physics textbooks. I felt that it was taught so badly and I hated every moment of it. But it did give me a source of exercise material and a sort of "syllabus" on what to study (which you can find on PD anyway...).

Maths for Biomed is interesting but Stats is probably more useful in real life.

I have only ever had a look at the physics for biomedicine papers briefly (out of curiosity) and on a personal level found that they did not seem to have the same level of depth or utility that physics "for science" has. So maybe download a few of the PHYC10003 papers and see how you go (obviously not now since it’s a different course to what you’re doing). Just note that first year physics in science goes a little beyond what required for the GAMSAT, especially in terms of the level of maths. I think it prepared me quite well for the physics section of the GAMSAT, but this is really just an anecdote (i.e., a single opinion).

When I say random, I was thinking about subjects that have absolutely nothing to do with each other, ie 1 subject from each faculty. But I have no evidence for what I said and it's just a bullshit theory of mine.

Also, haven't you overloaded in all your semesters so far? So the chance of having two exams on a day is greatly increased compared to people doing 4 subjects?  :P

oh no... even worse than Chem for Biomed tho?

Aren't you forced to do all of them? Or has that changed?

Maths for Biomed is interesting but Stats is probably more useful in real life.

I'm in the Bioengineering pathway atm but I'm thinking of going back into the mainstream pathway so I've gotta pick between Stats and Maths for Biomed next semester. I heard you're supposed to do Stats if you did Bio 3&4 in VCE but nobody actually enforces that rule(?)
