Does anyone know what happens if you only do 3 subjects in your first semester, third year when applying through GEMSAS for say dentistry?

I want to possibly do a winter subject next year, which means that I will only do 3 subjects in my 3rd year 1st sem.

Pretty sure no one who graduates with a degree in mechatronics ever gets employed anyways

(Not that I can talk. #biomedeng#5evaunemployed)

Damn so would chemical or software be better as a backup?

Hey, im pretty sure there are no major differences. It just means 3 subjects make up your grade for that semester.

Btw, what winter subject are you looking at? Im tempted to do the forest one lol. Just to knock out a subject in a week...

I'll actually email GEMSAS and confirm.

but another question, is there a certain amount of science 3rd year subjects that I need to have done to apply, or can I apply if I have only done 2 level3 science subjects + 2 level1 breadth in my 1st sem third year?

I have done both a winter and summer subject (i only did 3 subjects each this semester and last semester). So how it works with your GPA is that they start from 3rd year and count backwards. So if you only do 3 subjects in 3rd year, semester 1, they use those 3 subjects plus your highest scoring subject from 2nd year, semester 2 for your GPA

Then your GPA for second year semester 2 will be the 3 other subjects, plus your winter subject.

I hope this makes sense lol. They just start from 3rd year and move backwards

Yes sht you're right, dunno where I pulled that bs from. It's pretty neat that your highest subject from year 2, semester 2 contributes to your 3rd year gpa!

Kbean no. fyi - the gemsas guide has everything you need to know!

Oh wait! Im so gonna do painting techniques.

This makes sense but that just means that overall, you are one subject short.

This is what I mean, let's make all the subjects the letters of the alphabet:

FIRST YEAR
SEM1: A,B,C,D
SEM2: E,F,G,H

SECOND YEAR
SEM1: I,J,K,L
SEM2: M,N,O,P

THIRD YEAR
SEM1: Q,R,S
WINTER: T
SEM2: U,V,W,X

I think that you apply for postgraduate (at least for GEMSAS) before your winter subject results come through. This means that you only have Subjects Q,R and S

Kbean no. fyi - the gemsas guide has everything you need to know!

Yeah I guess I'm just being lazy, I should probably read the guide first. :)

KBean, you're correct. I'm in exactly the same situation as you (doing 3 subjects this semester) and 5 to make up before I graduate.
I went to MDHS and they said that only the 3 subjects will be included in the 3rd year provisional GPA. With regards to the rest of the subjects, you're required to maintain your GPA to retain your conditional offer (should you receive one).

Yeah, if you backtrack you're one subject short in year 1. Possibly they'll use your top 7 subjects of year 1 for GPA1. But I'll stop speaking on the matter bc apparently I am the Bs King.

Umm i used to draw a lot? But i don't think it matters too much if youre not really artistic.

I did both glee singing and painting techniques, I'd say they both easy to do get a H1 in. Though I think glee singing was perhaps the easiest out of the two, because you don't need to sing well to succeed and it is minimal effort. On the other hand, I really enjoyed painting techniques, but you still had to put in a solid performance in your paintings to get a really good mark and painting is tedious.  It is actually fun taking alot of time to produce an artwork that you think you could never have. Even though I did significantly better in glee singing, but painting techniques was hands down, my favourite breadth subject, and have my paintings hung on my wall as a reminder of the good times i had
