has anyone on here done/know anyone whose done uni psych successfully without any prior or concurrent biology/chemistry knowledge (lmao does that even exist on atarnotes)?
i started off doing psych last sem but the lectures jumped straight into behavioural neuroscience and i had no clue what was going, i left the subject in week 3. i never really tried to learn the stuff though, it kinda just overwhelmed me and i gave up thinking "wtf is going on", but now im kinda worried that i legged it too quickly and am starting to regret leaving it because it really does interest me.

should i yolo it enrol in it next year and if its too much again just drop it again?

hey, only high school science subject i took was chem but I got 29 raw so not great. did fine for mbb1 and 2, h1 avg across both iirc. Neuroscience (biology part) is 100% the hardest part of MBB1 and my mate dropped it for the same reason as you. I struggled too but if you go at it its definitely doable, no exaggeration. I would encourage you to pick it up again if you enjoy psych.

MBB1 was't very typical of psych subjects tbh. it was a bit all over the place but in a good way-a lot more science-y that usual though.  and also a lot of arts students take it- so there are heaps of people who have no science knowledge whatsoever.

Of course...not. That confessions poster was a post-grad student. And is in a really shitty situation too. I think there are even more comments about international students hiring out ghost writers (one of the prices was like $430 for something worth 60-70...)

That's the way it should be marked! IRRC, my friend at RMIT said that they had a system which they had to log onto to submit their work and used to communicate so that if any issues should arise, those who did their part would not be dragged down. Do you know if UoM has such a system? I think it would solve a lot of problems.

I have a feeling those internationals who use ghost writers didn't get into UoM through their academics. It's really unfair to those who actually work

Check out my subject review if you want it explained in detail (although the directory in the first post is seriously out of date and hasn't been updated with the semester 1 2015 reviews so you'll need to do some scrolling). In short though, the practical 2 marks the actual practicals you get to do for the microbiology and immunology component of BIOM20001; for all the other topics you go a CAL instead. When you timetable this in next year, just be aware that what you pick for practical 2 is largely irrelevant - in our year anyway, we were automatically assigned to a practical 2 timeslot based on what we had chosen for practical 1 (i.e. we didn't necessarily get into the session we actually picked). The workshop is just an extra timeslot lecturers can use to catch up on lecture material if they fall behind (generally they're pretty good; for our year they came in handy because a couple of times the lecturers got confused about the timetable and forgot to come to their lecture - which is understandable given the complexity of the timetable) or use to answer queries and ask us some practice questions. They're not like the workshops in BIOL10002 and BIOL10003 - they're actually really useful. In that sense, there are no traditional tutorials in this subject - mind you, I'm not sure they would be necessary anyway.
