So there are these lectures next week (not o-week) for jaffys along the lines of 'how to get the most out of lectures', 'organisational strategies', etc...
Are these any worth going to, has anyone been to them?

Most of the lectures are based from academic skills

http://services.unimelb.edu.au/academicskills/all_resources#study-skills

If it helps to interact via a speaker then it wouldn't hurt to check it out!

Thanks heaps for the help! pretty much completely answered my question!

Also, where did you find the sem 1 2015 subject guide? I think I would find it extremely useful.

Thanks so much for the help again!

Inboxed you

I can't be the only person with pre-university jitters! It's kind of exciting and a bit scary at the same time.

Looking forward to starting haha :)
Regarding textbooks, I'd die if I had to bring even one physical textbook (~1000 pages) with me to uni, hence I'm ensuring all my purchases will have an ebook version.
However, I only have a laptop at the moment, and it's difficult to do questions because of the keyboard getting in the way of my exercise book, etc. From experience, is it worth getting a cheap tablet (probably android) simply to use textbooks?

Also, I'm taking BIOL10004, the prescribed book is Edition 5. How much trouble could be caused if I got Edition 4?

I used edition 4 for BIOL10004 and BIOL10005 - caused no troubles at all. Everything you need is in edition 4.

Is there any difference between chemistry 3e and chemistry 2e textbooks, because for some reason only the second edition comes as an ebook. Also, what is wileyplus. I visited their website and it was too hard to understand what it was due to the vast amount of inflated language and bs advertising terms.

You can borrow most textbooks from the library on a short-term (2 hour) loan. Don't buy textbooks unless you want a hard copy, and you think you'll refer to it after the semester is finished.

I'd consider the $150 organic chemistry textbook a good investment if you're going to major in chemistry, less so if you're just going to do it for a year.

Does anyone know if PHYC10001 (Physics 1 : Advanced) uses WileyPLUS? Also the e-book version - are most textbook ebooks in pdf form or do they have to be run in their own program (:() for DRM reasons?

Also, with second hand textbooks, are sellers usually able to provide a pdf? (I realise that this is a vastly generalised question)

Sorry to be so out of it.

Would it be wise to hold of purchasing books until the lecturer/tute recommends ones we will need? Or alternatively, where could i find the recommended list for books needed etc etc..

Thankyou :)

Once they release your subject guides in 1-2 weeks, the document will inform you which textbooks you need.

Not that I'm aware of. I've never met the guy. (I know your question was direct towards him, but I think I can answer it. :P )

If you attach a string to a stick, does that make it a rod, or does it stay as a stick?

I don't know why, I always thought of Rod as a name rather than an object in this context. ^_^
