^Just a bit of bantz. But yes, I think many people would agree that's extreme. I've done both Chem subjects and large amounts of the textbook are not relevant to the course / are fundamental VCE stuff that you should already know.

Power to you if you want to do it, but you'll likely do better diversifying your information sources (internet, library, other books) for particular concepts rather than grinding one textbook.

I had a lecture at 10am this morning and the recording is still not up... I'm glad I went today, but if this is the wait time for lecture recordings things are going to be pretty tough this semester with my timetable all over the place. Fingers crossed it's just some early struggles.

That's weird. Mine get uploaded pretty much 10-20 mins after the lecture.

Is it too extreme to go over the entire textbook for chemistry and biology, rather than just the pages that our lecturer recommends?
Just go over the parts you need. You won't go over the whole book in the entire semester, so what's the point of reading and understanding every single page? What's the point of learning something that will not be assessed?

If you want to do it for interest - then by all means go for it.

...you go to a computer lab to play around with MATLAB to try to "visualize" the concepts

I have a feeling the only thing I'm gonna be 'visualizing' is my brain melting

Are the textbook questions in the review chapters appropriate for Biomolecules and cells. And if not, how can I revise content ensuring that I'm also able to both apply and understand it.

How does printing work at melb uni? Do students get an allowance with respect to how much they can print? or do we have to pay each time we print?

hi
im a first year noob
during enrolment, i filled in "Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP" which has been approved
my subject fees for this semester are listed in the "optional" section of the student invoice
at the bottom it says, "If you do not pay the amount owing by the census/incurral date you will incur a HELP debt to the Australian Taxation Office."
so I don't need to do anything right (to get a hecs help loan)? the normal process is to fill in the form when enrolling and thats it?

You'll need to charge your student card to print/copy, it can be done online at here , recharge-->upload the documents you wanna print-->touch on your student card on printer-->print. There're recharge machines in library as well. Bear in mind sometimes the queue of files waiting to be printed is quite long (especially around noon).

That's right, don't pay and it goes onto HECS. You will need to check whether you need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) upfront as it is covered by another system (SA-HELP) that you may not have applied for, not HECS. It's quite small compared to the subject fees anyway.

For the chemistry prac reports, can we just use any A4 book, or does it have to be duplicate?

Specifically for chemistry, it has to be duplicate

Would a normal A4 book be OK just for the first experiment?

Honestly do not know, I would assume so because we are just getting used to University life. But please make sure with someone else, I don't want you to lose marks because of me :)
