i've had no serious gripes about the university throughout my whole time here and love to recommend it to people but i have to admit the new stop 1 is horrible. the people at the desks are very very unhelpful, and generally unknowledgable about topics that require any depth of knowledge at all. theyve been spread far too thin with their knowledge and expertise. after 3 visits, each one consisting of talking to people whose responses were akin to that of a brick wall, the sum total of information i got out of them was all stuff that i had found within 5 minutes of googling, and i had to end up emailing relevant academics directly to get clarification on administrative issues that they should not have to waste their time with. pls bring back student centres

yeah it's pretty bad being a first year and not really knowing what's going on, and then the people who are supposed to help you don't know either :(

I have course specific/beyond questions, should I go to that careers thing or something?

Pretttty sure I didn't go to that. Also prettttty sure that the world didn't cave in as a consequence.

Haha thought so. Probably just trying to make sure people turn up, because no matter how interactive a lecture is, there's not going to be much interaction if the lecture theatre is empty. XD

You don't get one (which makes sense - you don't have any final marks yet!). If you're on the Dean's List for the total of first year, and do science, you'll get a letter around mid April-early June next year telling you you made the list, plus a certificate and a note on your transcript. There's no ceremony for Science Dean's List, though.

I think the misunderstanding is that the Deans List letters being received now are for last year (i.e. if you're in third year, you're getting a letter for your work in second year.)

Don't get me started about this. The university administration is more efficient (read: saving money) as a result, so I guess it's worth it.

any past acc maths 1 students here?
If so, what are we supposed to know for the matlab test? how to write functions? plot graphs?
and what is the format of the test? do we just follow some instructions and write down our answers? the lecturer said that they would be testing code encryption/decryption i think

differnet subjects have different rules, some subjects like QM employ a 1 second late = you get a 0 rule, others say you lose 5% a day, others 10% a day, depends on the subject

Can anyone tell me if ANAT20006, PHYS20008 and MIIM20002 lectures are all recorded, and if lecture attendance for physiology is compulsory? I'm asking because I have so many clashes between those lectures and will be screwed if I have to go to physiology but miss out on another subject's non-recorded lecture.

Also, what's the phys20008 workshop in the handbook timetable? Is it like a tute where you go through questions or is it like computer modules or whatever that you can just do from home?

- All lectures are recorded
- You need at least 50% attendance in the physiology lectures to get 5% of the subject mark
- The workshop is kind of like a big tute in a lecture theatre where Charles goes through allocated questions from the phys workbook. It isn't compulsory.

From the front page of LMS,
Quote
Lecture Capture: Current Technical Issue

The Lecture Capture System is currently experiencing slow performance, and users may be unable to access lecture capture recordings this afternoon (Wednesday 11th May).

We are working with the vendor to resolve this issue with the highest priority.

We apologise for the inconvenience and will advise when further information is available.

- All lectures are recorded
- You need at least 50% attendance in the physiology lectures to get 5% of the subject mark
- The workshop is kind of like a big tute in a lecture theatre where Charles goes through allocated questions from the phys workbook. It isn't compulsory.

Oh that's not too bad then. Thanks!
