Hi guys,
for anyone who has done GENE20001, for the MCQ section, especially with all the drosophila and dragon crosses etc, can I ask if you guys have enough space to do rough working out or do they give us some blank space to do the draft?
Thanks :)!

No extra space is given. I had similar concerns last year, but sometimes a page finishes fairly high up and so you can use that for workings. In the end I had no problems.

Anyone that has done OB before, what's the secret? I'm pretty overwhelmed and I don't see how some people regard this subject as "easy".

how does one go about dropping out of university? do you still have to pay the fees? I had them on HECS but obviously I would still be required to pay them right? and how does one pay them, do i have to pay it right away or when i find a job?

there's a course withdrawal option on the left when you go to your study plan so I'm assuming that's the first step, but you're not actually going to go through with this are you?!

I know i might be completely in the wrong here, and i apologize if i am, alot of people im interacting with at monash who are first years are also having thoughts about dropping out because of their marks. If thats the case with you, and i apologize again if im in the wrong, i would suggest to rethink about it. Our first semester at uni is not supposed to be about getting a 90+ wam. Its about seeing what works for you or what not. Plus 2nd and 3rd years weight more than first year. Its just a trial. I dont know if its the same at melbourne however first year is only worth 20% of your degree at monash.

if it makes anyone feel better my marks aren't too hot and I won't be getting a 90 WAM

cosine:
I don't mean to intrude so if it's for personal reasons say no more if you don't want to, but if you don't like your course have you considered transferring to something else? Or to a different uni?

I would strongly recommend that you speak to a careers / course adviser before you discontinue enrolment. Discuss with them your reasons and any problems (if any). In terms of HECS, given that it's nearly the end of Semester 1, the chance for a remission of debt is quite low. You are required to contribute back to your HECS debt once you earn over ~$50,000 a year, regardless. This is done via tax or you can make a voluntary contribution via the ATO.

In saying that, i've linked a few resources that might be of interest to you:

2. http://ask.unimelb.edu.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/980/~/fee-remission-in-special-circumstances

If you have any problems regarding Melb Uni in general that you are happy sharing, perhaps post here or PM someone? Don't make this decision lightly.
