Hi all

Wondering if anyone who has done ZOOL20004 (Australian Wildlife Biology) might have tips on good reading material before the subject starts this year?

I'm looking to get a base-level understanding of some of the main topics.

Thanks!
You could skim throughly the practical book and get a sense of what you need to do in the practicals to do well. Have you done FF? If so a lot of FF overlaps in wildlife so you could revise some lectures from FF.

I'm doing principles of genetics, physiology and principles of microbiology and immunology this sem, is there any point in slowly reading through the chapters of the textbooks? Is its a complete waste of time?
It depends. A lot of what is in the textbook may not actually be examined in the lectures. If you want to just read for leisure then go for it. But if you want to go ahead maybe try and find the study outline somewhere and then use it to read up on the specific topics that are assessed.

The timetable showed that there would be 4 chemistry 1 lab sessions available at night, however on my class registration they don't appear. Does that mean they are not running, or do I have do so something to enable them to appear?

Stressing - thought there would be a certain BIO10004 prac time that I could book but now it isn't there :(

Question - Is the 'skills workshop' that replaces the prac every second week mandatory because at this rate it's going to clash with my chem prac...

Unfortunately sometimes practicals disappear simply because the coordinators have chosen to cancel those time slots. It's happened to be before and yes it's really frustrating because they don't give you any notice.

Never heard of a ''skills workshop'', is this for biology?

They are streams. You have to tick a box on the side, which will select all the practicals in the streams.

Thanks for the help -yeah it was for bio.

Another question (sorry) - has anyone ever had to miss Calc 2 lectures before and still kept up? I'm going to have to skip one a fortnight because of clashes but thought it might actually be the worst lecture for me to miss.

I've looked at the study handbook and it doesn't say if the workshop is compulsory or not. You might have to email Dawn about your clash. The practical is definitely compulsory ask her about the workshop. [email protected]

I haven't done calc 2 but attending 5/6 each fortnight is pretty good lol, better than me for any of my subjects lol. You should be fine as long as you watch the lecture at home.

Yes. I have missed a couple but it's very easy to catch up imo. You can probably finish the lecture much quicker since you can watch it at 2 times the normal speed. As long as you don't leave the videos on the back burner then everything will be fine.

it's ok to miss but try to borrow someone else's notes for that day because for some reason lecture capture only captures one of the document camera so some of the things the lecturer wrote might not be shown.

Are they likely to create any more tutes or lectures (in addition to the remaining 20% of class places opened on 21st)?  I've been completely locked out of all options for accounting reports and analysis ... :(
not sure but one thing i have tried and worked is checking it once in a while after you registered for all other classes. some timeslots may become available again since some people may change their timetables.

I have got a clash between my elective (COMP10003) and breadth, a methods equivalent that i NEED to take (MAST10012). They both only have one lecture #3 at the same time and I was wondering if anyone else has had this kind of thing happen? I really dont want to change, is it possible to like alternate every week ???

Both subjects most likely have their lectures recorded, so watch none/one/both at home

Just a question about online lectures, how long does it usually take for them to be released? I couldn't get into the 2hr ACCT10001 lecture (so far), but due only getting the last available tute, I now have a 3hr break (on Tuesday), which would be perfect to watch this lecture during. If they run a Monday lecture, is it likely to be released by the next day? (and if so can you get good internet at the uni?) Thanks again

Internet is probably the best you'll find, I can reach download speeds of around 10 megabytes per second (compare this to my home which runs at like 500kb/s absolute luxury). Digital nerds can probably find better, but I find Uni internet to be nothing short of amazing.

As for ARA, they generally get released the same afternoon, but there can be delays :)
