..... surely someone has told him the lecture time limit is 50 minutes?

That's not strictly correct.

It's a convention that the lecturer start 5 minutes after the lecture time and stop 5 minutes before the end.
And it's a good convention that lecturers should stick to.
It gives people time to move from one lecture to the next.

But it's not a strict "limt".

Has anyone ever had Joel Bornstein as a lecturer? I have never ever been this frustrated by a lecturer. He is a great guy don't get me wrong, but a shocking teacher. He does not know how to explain things, he consistently goes off in tangents, and always contradicts himself.

He is the only lecturer I've ever had that thinks it's okay to go over the lecture time limit by 5-10 minutes EVERY SINGLE lecture. I mean, he has taught for the last ten years or so, surely someone has told him the lecture time limit is 50 minutes? Does he think that the words that come out of his mouth are magic and that we crave for more and more?

Did any past students feel how I'm feeling? I have loved every other lecturer (Pitcher Kitchner, Andrew Allen etc), it's just this guy. Any tips on how to survive him?

Thanks
How's neuroscience? :)

Ah right!

How's neuroscience? :)
I'm really enjoying neuroscience! It's probably the easier major compared to all the popular ones (HSF, immunology, etc.), but the content is interesting and you still have to put the work in to do well. If you enjoyed physiology in second year and like doing multiple choice assessments rather than short answer questions and practicals this major would really suit you. Saying that, it can get a bit boring and repetitive since there aren't any pracs or tutorials. For all my neuroscience subjects it's just all lectures, nothing else! Oh and Joel Bernstein makes the subject harder to learn, his lectures are woeful. Other than that all the other lecturers are great.

How's uni going for everyone? How have the Jaffies found it? :). Everyone looking forward to the break?

Personally I'm really behind and exhausted so this break is pretty much perfect timing. I want to catch up with work as well as go out a bit an enjoy myself.

Hope everyone is well.

Been through 6 weeks of OB and feel like I've learned f*ck all, but intro econometrics is far better than I thought it would be. 90% is just a rehash of QM1 so far.

Yeah, same here. There's so much content in OB I can't remember it all, nor do I know what to expect in the exam. I get the general gist of ideas though and see how they tie in together. Hopefully this is enough until swotvac when I will try to rote learn stuff.

Hey guys,
I've been predicting what my final grade might be using this method so can someone see if it's actually realistic/worth doing/also does this?

An mst is worth 15%. If I get 20/30 (67%) then that means I got 15×0.67=10.05 of the available 15% for the mst.

Is this calculation actually right?

Anyone here done principles of neuro? Was just wondering how the dreadful 30% mid-sem will be like in terms of difficulty, keep hearing from people that is was really hard in past years.

I have it in less than a week. I have one neurophys mid-sem under my belt so was wondering how it compares to neurophys.

Thanks  ;D ;D ;D

is it worth transferring courses in second year? I'm hoping to continue with the same major but switching to a new course lets me actually have breadth subjects rather than using my current breadth slots for subjects that belong to the new course

also I thought breadth could help my WAM a bit since I can pick 'easier' subjects

Would this be for Environmental science? because Enviro science is definitely more flexible in Science because of the electives you can chose.
You also don't have to do ecology which you have to do in Environments. There are so many more subjects in Science so if you can I would definitely recommend it. Or the other major that you could have in Geography and I would 100% suggest you change for that because I haven't heard heard any good about sustainable dev but the second year cores are supposed to be great. Although again you have the flexibility to do them in Science. Hopefully you are think of one of these two majors because I can't think of any others that cross over :)
