I'm currently trying to update my subject plan so all the subjects I'm doing are in there. All I have left to fill out is the Science and/or Breadth subjects area of which I want to do Wellbeing, Motivation and Performance and Foundations of Computing, yet this area isn't giving me the option to add any level 1 subjects. I have only completed 100/125 max level 1 subjects, 75/87.5 max level 1 science and 25/37.5 max level 1 breadth, so I should definitely still be able to add them. Any one know how to fix this?

Global climate change in context :)
One of the best subjects I've done!

I actually miss it so much

Does anyone know the range of indicative WAM/GPAs needed for MD or Physiotherapy?
I know there's lots of factors, but for something like Physiotherapy where you get interviews offers based on WAM/GPA is there any indication of what you need?
Any information such as friends you know got in with X GPA etc would be greatly appreciated
For MD at Melbourne generally you would want a GAMSAT in the high 60s to low 70s to be competitive. As well as a GPA of around 6.8. I have three friends from last year who made it in. Their combos varied GAMSAT:GPA - 80/6.90+, 73/6.90+, 69/6.81.

So yeah it's pretty competitive :(.

For physiotherapy I have no idea, since first year though I've been hearing from people that you would want a WAM in the 80s to be competitive and get an interview.

Hope that helps

Hey guys just asking for a friend,

Are special consideration MSTs, exams etc. harder than the original? Or do they usually make them similar difficulty?

Thanks a lot

In my experience they are very very similiar in difficulty. the uni is pretty good at making sure theyre the same. if anything they are probably easier. Ive done a few special consideration exams in my time and know the questions in the actual exam and i think they are the same difficulty if not slightly easier. for QM1 when i did the special consideration exam i thought it was way way easier than what the apparent actual exam contained (even though i failed it LOL)

done a couple, the difficulty was (usually) exactly the same. I had a couple where they were harder though lol, but this is probably because the 'hints' lecturers sometimes drop are for the actual exam, not the spec con one
Questions were very very very similar eg. same style question with different values or concepts. Best part about these exams though is that they're in a smaller venue (eg. university hall or whatever it's called in old arts) and the invigilators feel a little less scary hahah

In regards to MSTs I got spec con for one of them and they just added whatever that test was worth to my exam so the exam became worth a larger percentage of the overall grade

tl;dr they're basically the same as the normal exam so don't feel disadvantaged, but they're different enough so you don't have an advantage either

I'm a 2nd yr science student hoping to get into MD, my WAM is concerning me though. I'm sitting at 74 and thats with a summer elective (I've done 9 subjects so far). atm its looking like I'll be getting high 70s to low 80s this sem (3 subjects). What is a competitive WAM for the MD and do you guys have any tips on doing well at uni? I was a high achieving student at high school and since i've come to uni my grades have been so shit i'm having the hardest time adjusting. If I end up with a WAM at the end of my degree that won't get me into med at melb or elsewhere what are my options in gaining entry into medicine?   :( :( :(

Effort haha.... they have probably been the least effort subjects I've done at uni (especially going to Queensland)
I've heard good things about all of them. The NZ was amazing! Going on helicopter rides over glaciers, hiking up mountains, boat rides along Fjords, swimming in lakes, caving, seeing amazing wildlife all while learning about the climate and landscape. Cannot rate it highly enough!!

(Image removed from quote.)

wow sounds awesome I'll definitely have to suss that out, but I saw it's a quota subject? did you need a certain WAM to get in?

if i could go back in time and do my degree again i wouldve definitely done geography breadth instead of chinese just for those crazy trips. really wanted to go to the ecology of fire one but i didnt have the pre-req :(

they aren't available as breadth so don't feel bad hahah
unless that makes you feel worse

From what I understand, there is a minimum GPA for the MD at melb uni of 5.0 that is weighted so that the final year counts more than the second, and the second more than the first. And your GAMSAT comes into play as well so a wam on the lower end I guess can be balanced out a bit by a stellar GAMSAT result. As a second year too, I can definitely relate to your difficulty adjusting and the feeling of disappointment when you don't get the results you want. I'm sure most people, even most of the high achievers during high school, can struggle a bit in first year trying to find their footing. Since first year is the least heavily weighted anyway, there is certainly a chance that your wam/GPA will be competitive as long as you continue to do well in the rest of your undergrad. I'd love if someone could provide some info too since I'm certainly not the most informed on the whole process either. Anyways, I certainly wouldn't feel disappointed over a 74 in first year!
