Trying to apply for special consideration for my exams for mental health reasons and I'm running into a few road blocks. If anyone has been in a similar situation, please help.

1. I have to apply 'within 4 working days' for each assessment. What exactly does this mean? Does it mean I can apply in 4 day windows BEFORE and AFTER my exam? Why can't I apply, say, 12 days before my assessment? (or can I)? I want to apply for consideration for all four exams, so why can't I just do this all at once instead of having to wait days?

2. I have the option to attach multiple pieces of assessment to the application. If they are not all 4 days apart, is this still the correct procedure, or am I meant to make separate special consideration applications with the same HPR form?

3. Does this apply under 'medical', 'hardship/trauma', or 'other'?

This is a terribly bureaucratic and confusing process for people in need of genuine help.

I have experienced (and am still experiencing) the same issues so hopefully these answers are helpful. Based on last year

1. My understanding of this is it's within 4 working days of the assessment date (ie. exam date) or due date. That means AFTER the assessment has occurred. So if your exam is on Monday you have until Friday to submit your spec con application. All they are saying there is if you apply more than 4 days after the assessment, the application is late and is less likely to be accepted.
You can apply beforehand -- I was granted a special exam for one that hadn't occurred yet last year. Apply ASAP

2. You can put all your assessment in the one application using the same evidence.

3. Depends -- I know that it's sometimes both but if you have a HPR you can choose medical and elaborate on the rest where it lets you provide the reason (and in the evidence you will attach). That's what I did

feel free to PM if needed. You are not alone in this and of course you aren't the only person on AN going through a similar situation so plz feel free to ask me more questions and hopefully I will be able to answer them. I remember how hard it was just to find the spec con login page when I first applied & being in the position where you need special consideration usually isn't a pleasant one so I am empathising with you and I wish you all the best

Hey everyone - just wondering if anyone knows whether you have to pass the exams for Chemistry 1 and Calculus 2 to pass the subject overall?

1. you can apply from 4 days before and up to 4 days after. the reason you cant apply further out than that is because the uni makes a very big distinction between ongoing/long term/chronic issues and acute things that just affect your exam. if you could apply 12 days out people with the flu would start applying etc. the idea is if you have something that was fucking you up from that far out, you would go see student equity and disability support and they organise alternative exam arrangements for you to cater for your condition. special consideration is meant to be a back up last resort for an otherwise healthy person who has had a short term disturbance fuck them up. if you have ongoing issues then SEDS make arrangements for you

2. if they aren't 4 days apart im pretty sure you have to do it separately. i know for my special consideration in first year i had to do 2 applications for the same condition and the exams were 1 week apart.

3. if you have a hpr and have diagnoses from professionals then it is medical. if you have not gotten doctors to see you then it would be trauma/hardship.

in other news that corporate finance exam today was the hardest corp fi exam ever given :(

For calc 2 there is no hurdle requirement to pass the exam.
Of course, since the exam makes up 80%, you need to get at least 37.5% on the exam (assuming 20/20 on the rest of the assessment).

snip
I asked Stop 1 and they said I can apply as soon as I want for all 4 of my exams, but thanks for your reply. I left it as medical but explained in the reason summary
edit: every time i call stop 1 they change their mind, lol. I think you are right on this, though.

If I am applying for mental health reasons, is it expected that I do some sort of statutory declaration in addition to my HPR form? Only reason I ask is because they're mentioned in the application page, and I want to be as confident as I can that my application will get approved.

To any MAST20004 probability students from 2009-2015, was lab content assessable on the exam when you were doing this course?

I've never done one BUT I had some 3rd party evidence from my very first application (and then all the evidence after that was medical etc but by then SEDS knew what was going on)

so if this is your first time applying, it wouldn't hurt to do one

Do you mind if I ask the reason for the question?
Just curious.

Isn't the important thing if it's assessable in 2017?

Totally cooked it lol. I crammed a week before exams so I think part of this was my fault, but I legit wrote nothing for b + c for last question (well technically tried to justify subsidy somehow but 100% sure it's not correct).

I spent my last 3 minutes counting how many marks i've lost (~30% so far) rip WAM

They have to scale it up, that was ridiculously hard compared to the practise stuff he gave us rip. Even section b2 was cooked lol

out of interest what did you guys put for the last bit of the food truck question? I thought it was relatively simple (a repeat of part b with different values) then I thought through what it asked and I'm pretty sure I changed my answer at the last minute to something wrong

On a similar topic to the one above, did anyone else find the intro micro exam really hard (especially C1, and some of the MC questions) ? :( Any chance they would ever scale an intro micro exam, or am I stuffed? My average for assignments was literally exactly 80%, tute participation should have been good as I went to every class, answered/asked questions ect, but I'm not sure I'll even scrape a 50% for hurdle requirement? Thanks
