all I have to say about the first day back is that the new toilet paper dispensers suck

is anyone doing principles of business law and know when tutes start? havent been able to enrol in it yet

I did it last semester and I think they started in week 3. There's only 3 or so workshops throughout the whole semester, they occur before assessments
Unless there are actual tutes now I wouldn't know about those

Haha, 100+ to this. And to any past AM2 students, does the real analysis stuff become manageable after you really read over and think about the definitions and examples and go to the prac classes and all? Feeling really overwhelmed about it after just the 3rd lecture :/

Yeah you'll get the gist of it a few weeks in. It's worth spending some time understanding conceptually the epsilon-N proof (definition of a limit of a sequence) and then the simple proofs that are a result of that. A good foundation is pretty important in real analysis so getting the first few lectures clear in your head saves the trouble later. That portion of the subject is where most people struggle so don't feel disheartened by it if you don't get it straight away.

What do you do when a lecturer is absolutely shit at lecturing? Is there like a formal way to report it for the university to look into it? Googling hasn't really found anything.

There's a subject evaluation survey at the end of the subject, you can voice your concerns then

Has anyone here previously done 'Thinking Scientifically' and have any tips for how to do well in assessments?

Haven't done it myself, but from what I've heard from speaking to others who have done it, it's an invaluable subject which provides you experience which not many other subjects get you. Definitely can give you an edge over a lot of people if you're vying for a vacation/graduate position. It's also fairly competitive to get into the subject, with not many admissions each semester.

Think more of my friends do it to 1. meet other like minded people and 2. travel rather than the sort of competitive edge you get from the subject.

You'll have the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most incredible human beings so i'd say it's definitely worth an application (if you're not doing the summer vaccy since the Jan intake basically ruins 90% of vac opportunities).

And what's wrong with the lecturer?

Intro Macro, there are two lecturers and the second one is well, It's pretty obvious its her first time lecturing but she's very unorganised, doesn't explain well and the last lecture of hers that I went to she finished off by saying she wouldn't be able to complete so please check out the annotated lecture slides and watch the other lecturer's lecture online.

I'm in the morning lecture, but my friends in the afternoon basically said exactly this, so it's probably a very popular opinion! I can't say for certain, but I think if you sent a message to Stop 1, they might be able to help, or at least point you to where you need to go to put in a formal complaint?
Also, if this option is viable for you, the morning lecturer only uses PowerPoint, and records all annotations, so watching at home will probably be a similar experience (plus 9 and 11 will be recorded, in case one recording stuffs up)

definitely do it. i would've done it but im kinda over overseas studying. alot of people prefer the regular subject management consulting where you work with a company throughout the semester (you can only do 1 of these 2 subjects) because the melbourne one gives you like actual company experience and possibly a foot in the door, but if you have good prospects already id go overseas for sure
