The general rule at unimelb is you have to be within 10% of the word count to not lose marks. So between 900-1100 for a 1000 word assignment or 2700-3300 for a 3 thousand word

Hmm this rule is typically not applied though. In my experience of undergrad everyone insisted that the 10% rule was a myth and that if you went over the word count, even by a word, you'd be penalised.
Best bet is to ask your lecturer :)

Haha, I think I'm one of the newer students keeping this forum relatively active :P It would be good to have more first year students on like it sounds like it was like on here a couple of years ago though :(

Anyway, in people's experience (or any current students doing macro now?), do assignments strictly have to be near the word limit? I've tried all the questions in the macro assignment (there were 4 in total, worth 3,3, 2 and 2 marks), and I'm just under 500 words (for a 1000 limit), and don't see that there's much else I can add t o the discussion... For the 1000 word micro assignment I would have to cut down on every word just to be within 1100, but those had many more questions, worth 20 marks, but both assignments count 10%??? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Im doing macro now, I can't believe you've already done the assignment, I am nowhere near starting. I asked the OLT for micro last semester and he said that however much below was fine and that you may just be very concise and to the point which is preferred but 10% above was the limit. Maybe wait a little closer to the deadline to see what its like for other people? This assignment can be done in a group, are you submitting it alone?

Yep, I've got a pretty rigid timetable and schedule due to travel/station parking time limit issues and don't know anyone in the tute well, so I felt it'd just be an unnecessary stress to do it as a group (and haha yeah, pretty much all my uni friends have said I'm super fast with assignments, but due to long travel time and having work on weekends, I try to get them all done ASAP :P ). I was going to ask a few friends closer to the date, but I figured since it was so early I'd have a better chance with past macro AN students, but I reviewed/re did some today, and released I missed some key details for the bigger questions, so now I'm at ~800 words, which I feel seems reasonable

It's always good getting it done early, means you can figure out what you missed before you submit it :)
How's everyone finding the semester? I'm overloaded with work currently ugh and just finished my intro micro online test, and have to get another assignment done tonight

Pretty much the same, got a long accounting assignment due next week and the AM2 content is killing me :,( Have you considered doing summer subjects to lighten your future workload? I'm planning to do this for a breath and organisation behaviour over summer 2018 and 2019 so I'll have 3 subjects for semester 1 of 2018 and 2019 :) (assuming I survive the acturial major/pass AM2)

You probably won't be able to do one in 2019 if you're interning just a heads up

A friend of mine actually did that for this semester :p I've considered it but it might be a bit too difficult to organise as I'm in science and my breadths are commerce, so no easy breadths for me. And want to be able to enjoy my holidays haha, might consider doing a subject overseas but probably won't do it.

I really would not mind that mid-semester break right around now, motivation is getting drained rapidly

Having a MID semester break after week 9 in the semester is the biggest joke.

Hey everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knew, what is the best Bachelors degree and Masters degree to do at Melbourne Uni if I want to have a career in aeronautical/aerospace engineering??

TIA!

Try doing a PhD...

I win.

(And yeah, the week 9 break always annoyed me too. Might as well be SWOTVAC).
BSc (Hons) 2015 Melbourne

PhD 2016-??? Melbourne

I want to be an architect.
