Yea I think its mainly to do that and reduce the ATAR requirements so less diligent students get a go at med. i.e. if you are extremely naturally good at the UMAT, you get a go at med despite a poor ATAR.

FUCK. I am soo worried about the UMAT

everyone says it was really easy, and they aced section 3. I had to guess 3-4 in section 3, and not sure of a couple of others!
and also section 1, people said was really straight forward, I think I did alright, but nowhere close to acing!

and section 2, I don't think anyone can be sure of that.

its so disconcerting to hear peoplle saying they dominated it :(

don't worry too much.
cause, section 1 is like, people think they do well but dont realise they make mistakes or misinterpret things.. so you should be fine

as for the umat.. we should be glad its there, otherwise we'd all need like an ATAR of 99.8+ (that's seriously not happening with me LOL)
And in regards to the hard/trial questions, if memory serves me correct, the instructions do indeed say "don't spend too long on a single question"

i think its a good test, except section 2

id take my chances with a 99.8 + then a Umat of 93+

Relax. Nobody can really know. I blindly guessed about 1/4 of my section 1 (literally - completely misjudged the time, you can't look at section 1 questions once the time is up so I picked random bubbles to fill in), and at least 1/3 of section 3 because I'm just bad at it, and I still made the cut-off for interviews (though to be fair it was lower back then - 59).

Sorry, this is probably a really noob question. However, what do you mean by "59"? Is this the percentile or a raw score?

By the way, when are UMAT results released?

its a scaled raw score, basically its your raw score then acer does statistical moderation to it to get this score
its called the overall score

and you get results late september (3rd week)
