Minimum ATAR to be considered for middle band in Arts/Law?

I'm planning on doing Arts/Law at Monash - the clearly-in ATAR is 98.40. The middle band for this course is kind of different to other courses - if I get a 45+ in English, my aggregate will go up by 2. A 40+ in Legal and Revolutions will add 1 point each to my aggregate. Middle band also considers SEAS - which I will be applying for.

Does anyone know roughly what the minimum ATAR will be needed for me to even be considered under middle band? I know that middle band includes the people who got close to the clearly-in but excludes those who got way of - but what these limits are, I'm not sure.

Thanks!

Hmm not too sure. But last year, a girl from McRobs with SEAS got in with a 97.

Alright then. :P Around 15% of successful applicants get below the clearly-in, so I'm just not sure how things will go.

If I don't get into this, I might just apply for Arts (Global) at Monash and then either transfer into the LLB after one year (or combine it with an LLB) or I might try my luck at getting into the Monash JD after I finish undergrad.

Does anyone else know much about middle band for Law at Monash? :)

Yeah that's a good idea. I shouldn't have went with Melbourne Arts, successful external transfers for law is quite impossible.

On the note about middle bands, it changes every year based on the quantity and the quality of the applicants.  So it's hard to tell the "rough" ATAR required, especially with Monash and their aggregate ranking system based on what subjects you completed in VCE or the VCE equivalent(s).

Its odd and strange... I missed out with 97.45 yet a girl i met in japanese got in with 95.xx in second round offers. I had SEAS and so did she. Your best bet is to just aim above the clearly in that way there's no doubt.
VCE 2010: Eng 42 | Legal 49 | Chem 37 | MM 34 | Indo SL 33 |
ATAR: 97.45

2011: Bachelor of Arts Monash University
2012: Bachelor of Commerce?? Please!!

Thanks for your help. :P

Haha I'd love to get into the course the normal way, but there's no chance in hell I'll be getting anything above 98.50.. :)

To Andy:

Yeah that sucks. You were close. Surprised that your SEAS didn't boost your ATAR score up by much. I know people who got 88 or so and got into bio-med (98.xx) in Melbourne with SEAS.

SEAS doesn't "boost" your ATAR or increase it in any way.  It is special consideration that selection officers take into account when they go through their list of applicants.
