Hence as ed_saifa said, they did 2 isomers twice.

Yep thanks everyone. I'm beginning to find a bit of sloppiness with Heinemann =( Typos and these answers. Confuses weak people like me.

I think these are the isomers. (hopefully I haven't missed any)

Say a hair was found at a crime scene. You'd use Mitochondrial DNA , as the shafts of hair does not have a nucleus, thus you wouldnt be able to extract DNA from there. And there are thousands of copies of mtDNA in cells so you have a better chance of extracting enough mtDNA for analysis if the sample is very old and degrading.

Also, mtDNA is only transmitted from the mother (maternally inherited).   It doesn't change much from mother to daughter (unlike usual DNA in the nucleus which is made up of half mother half father). Thus you can trace the lineage of species through females.

More biology-ish, really.  Doubt you need to know this at all.

If you take a look at the structure of normal aspirin, the COOH group could indeed form hydrogen bonds to be soluble in water, however its large molecular structure renders it insoluble in water.
By changing the carboxy functional group into a sodium salt makes the whole molecule into a positively charged ion. This way, it is much more likely to form dipole - ion attractions in water, hence it will be much more soluble.

In the book when they write the reaction between butane and chlorine, the product is .
Is it because it's a substitution reaction they don't write as there could also be ?

In these type of reaction pathways, you do not have to show all the products. (You only have to show the product which is desired)

EDIT: I remember clearly the book saying it somewhere in those small boxes they have on the side... but I just can not find it anywhere. sigh...
